The Vale is considered a luxury hotel but I struggled to find a car parking space near the entrance in order to check in! The staff in Reception were excellent and very helpful but I had to wait until check-in time to go to my room - when I eventually got there and turned on the hot water tap, brown coloured water appeared which is usually a sign that the room hasn't been used for sometime - so why did I have to wait? And there was only a shower and no bath! The hotel also needs to check the window fittings as the hotel is very exposed and any wind created a major draft! A huge disappoint was the bar area - spartan and utilitarian and full of small screaming children! I was also very disappointed with the meals. OH to cap it, there was a "works do" on the second night and had to put up with music until midnight - all in all not a happy experience.
Was expecting better. I think this is a hotel built round leisure facilities - it’s not particularly luxurious and the website in my view promises much more than it delivers.
Room was basic. Bed comfy and it was clean but basic. Corridors upstairs tired.
One night I had dinner. Disaster - I didn’t like the bar feel - sports bar very casual - 45 min for food. One chef on - hmm.
Starter see photo very odd - coconut prawns green beans with balsamic and olives - wierd. Fish and chips average and defo frozen. Ate out second night.
Then fiasco with bill on check out - additional charges and the girl on the desk was a bit frosty - it was their mistake.
I really didn’t like it and would not rush back.
Stayed here a few times recently - work related - & one thing I have noticed is the excellent customer service.
All the staff I have encountered have been attentive, polite, willing to help & great characters. Thank you.
The Vale also has an excellent gym & the bar areas / dining room are very comfortable & a welcome retreat. The free wifi is excellent (although I struggle with phone signal!).
This week, I couldn't have asked for a nicer room ... & the beds are soooo comfortable!
All in, thoroughly enjoyable stop & looking forward to returning. Many many thanks.
Overall fantastic place - amazing golf course and facilities. The negative is the bar / coffee area and in the past hotel reception. The staff are generally just not customer focused enough- they will not let you pay with a debit card unless you spend over £5 (really this is so outdated as a practice and hardly one a 4/5 star should be practicing- it costs less than 2p for a debit card transaction and 1% for credit cards - absorb it or it or put up your prices by 2p - no one carries cash these days. Some Staff are a bit snobby and job worthy - same as in Leekes. They need a culture shift.
The papers are never out in the bar by 10am - overall sloppy.
Could be so much better- take a visit to the Celtic Manor where it generally much more polished.
Very enjoyable overnight stay with lovely evening meal and great breakfast. We enjoyed a swim in the lovely pool and relaxed in the jacuzzi.Large car park and pleasant gardens to have a wander in.Very pleasant staff and always ready to help.
