Pros: Big parking space. Ticket price is reasonable, for mykad holder it's Adult RM20 & Child RM6. Many souvenir shops but they are all selling the same stuffs. Many food stores, again selling more or less the same food same price. I'm impressed with the size of this zoo and the collection of animals. Lot's of tall trees to provide shade for a leisure stroll.

Cons: Tram ride although cheap (RM3 adult; RM2 child) only allowed me 2 stops out of the many tram stations. I chose to stop at Station 4 and 7 but still have to do quite a lot of walking. Tram ride did not cater for photo shots, could only see the animals from far. I'll recommend to Not take the tram ride and walk instead so that you can get closer look at the animals and cover the inner paths. Zoo map is not free, paid RM2. Toilet although clean but no toilet paper.

I did not go for the animal show in this trip. I've seen the animal show before in my previous trip (Dec 2010) and was not impressed hence decided to skip the show and spend more time looking at the animals. Spent about 4 hours in there.

Overall: Was a fun trip, especially for my children. Worth a visit if you've not been there.

What a shocker! I read some of the reviews before hand and decided it was worth a look, if the sight of most of the animals living in concrete pens with no vegetation didn't make you feel sick, then the smell of their excrement will.....the only reasonable pens belonged to the turtles (who, at best, are minimalists by nature and require very low maintenance), the 'animal show' at 11am was lacklustre and performed by what seemed like bored employees and over fed circus pets. This zoo also tried to milk you for every penny....they even charge you extra for a zoo map! Don't go there as you will only encourage their existence and support their archaic ideals of animal husbandry....

Such a sensational zoo!! Make sure you go here! Don't listen to the bad reviews, we went here on a whim and are so glad we did! The animals look very happy and well looked after! We went first thing in the morning and the animals were all being fed and played with by staff, it's so much better than Australian zoos you are so close to the animals! We will always remember the shock of walking around the corner to giraffes straight in front of us! And the brilliant orangutans! A really great day out!! And cheap too :)

Zoo has ample parking for those who drive. Quite impressed with the number of animals and exhibits, beyond my expectation. There's an animal show at 11am. The audio speakers could be further improved but the show is nicely organized. There's the seal and birds performance. I'm particularly impressed with the lions, tigers, airfares and elephants, as you get to see them almost up close! Don't miss the Malayan tiger. There are two in the enclosure and they are playful and active, too. All animals look healthy to me. Zoo cleanliness, facilities and direction signs can be further improved. There are kiosks to buy food and drinks and souvenirs, even pure honey in bottles. Plenty of shaded area along the walkways around the zoo. Overall a nice zoo. Will be back.

I checked with friends and read all the online comments (+ve and -ve) and decided I'd bring my family to experience it ourselves with an open mind.

-Reached bright and early at 915 and found a nearby parking (they open at 9am)
-The ticketing staff was clear with the tickets and additional fees required (paid RM36 for two adults without video camera and no insect farm entry)
-As you enter, there were people to assist with the tag, Maps are sold at RM2 (donation)
-I have to say we enjoyed the place, with its relatively well shaded walkways and various animals on display. I know some ppl say the enclosures are small, but otherwise you wont be able to see the animals.
-Food and snack stalls were adequate and slightly more expensive but I guess thats normal for any tourist location.

For visitors:
-GO EARLY.. they open at 9am and as everyone knows, Malaysian weather is HOT and to avoid the large crowds
-those with infants, a stroller is important, lots of space to cover
-expect to spend 3-5 hours to complete your experience

Suggestions for the zoo, and I do hope they can improve:
-Staff should wear a smile, not just a uniform..
-Staff/Volunteers should be stationed at important areas to provide information/advice/interact with visitors (no one was at the childrens petting zoo area, kids were feeding the animals everything from dried leaves to anything they could find on the floor)
-The animal shows should start on time, the animal variety was adequate but as many have said, the presentation was boring, in fact many ppl left even before the show ended
-The aquarium was a bit dull and boring, everyone doing flash photography and putting grimy hands on the glass despite the signs because NO STAFF were there.
-Probably have a mascot with more children activities and exclusive Zoo negara souvenirs to sell to complete the experience (and add to the revenue for better maintenance and improvements)
