My wife and I spent two nights in Split Apple Lodge’s brand new apartment. I think it was the best accommodation during our 7 weeks journey through Australia and New Zealand and most definitely the best breakfast (e.g. fresh homemade bread and eggs from their own free range chickens!!).
Not only were the owners truly caring about the wellbeing of their guests (extremely helpful in giving tips and making reservations on our behalf), but the stylish apartment was also immaculate (the owners are German... and did fit the stereotype of perfectionists ;-)) and very spacious (living room, kitchen/dining room, bathroom, two bedrooms - so my wife didn’t have to suffer through my snoring...).
The views from the elevated position of the lodge were simply stunning: we were lucky enough to have a “super moon” out - that in combination with views of the sea and a sunset above the mountain range nearby was simply breathtaking.
Needless to say, the Abel Tasman National Park just around the corner should not be missed on any NZ trip in my opinion.
A big thanks to Fran and Daniel for making our visit a very special one!!

The European owners of the lodge have chosen for a modern and minimalistic European design. If you want to watch television at night, this is not the place for you. But if you like peacefulness, personal relationships, eco-friendly environment and incredible views out of each room (you can choose mountain or ocean — the ocean view rooms have their own private balconies), this is the place for you.

I can not complement Fran (co-owner) enough. Always asking if there is anything (else) that she can do or help with. Great hostess and concierge. Don't worry about where to eat tonight; she knows and will have a reservation for you in no time.

Breakfast is tasteful, organic is the theme. Freshly baked bread and crepes from Fran, muesli, yogurt, cheese, fruit, vegetables, organic coffee and milk, fresh juice, etc. It is served buffet style and eaten at a long, family-style table, where all guests sit together. Great place to socialize, make new friends and exchange travel experiences.

There's also a very spacious outdoor deck/patio with spectacular views of the ocean and the mountains.

The location is perfectly situated for kayaking and hiking at Abel Tasman National Park.

We had a memorable time at the Split Apple Lodge and will definitely stay there in the future.

Room Tip: ocean view rooms have there own balconies

What a great place to stay near the Abel Tasman. Beautiful views and great rooms. The common areas are a great retreat to relax and give the place a home feel in the best way possible. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and beautifully arranged. Absolutely a great choice to stay.

Great, quiet location, convenient for both Marahau & Kaiteriteri. Modern, well furnished rooms with views to either sea or mountains. Lovely deck and lounge area to relax. Friendly hosts offer delicious breakfast and suggestions for eating in evening. Would thoroughly recommend.

This is one of the top 5 hotels I've stayed in during my extensive travels. From the modern and minimalistic European design to the incredible views out of each room (you can choose mountain or ocean — the ocean view rooms have their own private balconies, while the mountain view rooms don't but still afford breathtaking views), my husband and I were deeply impressed and only wish we'd had more time to spend in the hotel itself, instead of hiking and kayaking.

The highlight of our stay was the breakfast. It was tastefully laid out in the kitchen each morning, with freshly baked bread, crepes, a make-your-own muesli bar, yogurt, cheese, fruit, vegetables, organic coffee and milk, fresh juice, etc. The "lobby" contains a long, family-style table, where all the guests sit together and eat. But the hotel is spacious enough that it feels private, so if you prefer not to interact with other guests, you can just say "good morning" and go on your way.

In the evening, Fran sets out cheese and crackers for guests to enjoy. She also plays ambient music in the "lobby" area, so it's a welcoming place to sip wine, snack, and enjoy the views. There's also an enormous outdoor patio area with plenty of seating.

In terms of location, you'll definitely need a car. It's not within walkable distance of Marahau or Kaiteriteri — it's about a 5-10 minute drive to either town. But given that the entire area is pretty remote, without much in the way of stores or restaurants, you aren't missing out on any exciting city life by staying at this hotel. That's the whole point of Abel Tasman anyway — to get away from the bustle.

We had a wonderful time. If we come back to New Zealand, we will definitely be staying here again!

Room Tip: If you want your own private balcony and a view of the ocean, request an ocean view room.
