This cafe is lovely--it sits on a lovely piece of land (wth a few cute sheep next door) and has a very interesting menu. It is the only place to eat anywhere near Curio Bay so call for reservations and to confirm hours.

We were attended to as soon as we walked in. Just wanted a refreshment after a pretty hard slog going up to McLean Falls. The carrot cake served with sour cream was delightful, as were the simple beverages of café latte and English Breakfast tea.

They have a sign "this is an old school, we like to keep to old school ways to prepare and serve things" or words to that effect. They did a good job.

Niagara Falls Cafe, the nearest cafe for those holidaying at Curio Bay, requires a 10-minute drive. In Winter, they are only open from 11am to 4pm and are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Apart from food, the Cafe has some souvenirs from the Catlins region on sale. It also has Para-Olympic medals on display, which should prompt conversation with the somewhat reticent staff.

We tried the savoury scones, brownie, and salted caramel slice. All three were scrumptious. The latte was decent. They have a good menu spread for lunch.

The cafe is sited in a former school house that is quaint and has a lovely garden to spend bright warm days in.

Stopped for coffee and glad we did. Unassuming place with lots of things to look at in the store. Easter egg with our takeaway coffees was a nice touch. Always encourage supporting small businesses like these. Wish we hadn't just eaten as menu looked great.

Top service and food. No great wait for our order and good vibe. Good coffee and very nice food. 100% better than the caravan down the road.
