Stayed here in a family room. The rooms were average - in definite need of a refurbish. The shower head was broken, many marks on the walls, very basic interior. However keeping in mind the excellent price of the room and the beautiful grounds the hotel is on, it is worth it. The grounds are beautiful - the view of the Calabrian hills, the pool and outdoor areas are magnificent.
It is only a 15 - 20 minute walk to the lovely small town of Altomonte - where their other restaurant is (which was one of our favourite places to eat in the whole of Italy).
Reception staff weren't overly friendly which was unusual considering other reviews.
And the pool staff were a bit harsh on the kids - telling them off for barely jumping in the pool when a group of other kids who were either locals or relatives of were jumping in all morning.
In summary, was great value for money in a beautiful location.

Awesome family owned hotel. Love staying here. Everyone treats you like family and food is impeccable. Views are spectacular. If you are looking for an authentic old town feel visit Hotel Barbieri in the small town of Altomonte. They also have tours you can take. Such an amazing time.. once again food is out of this world.

Stayed here in June 2017 as part of a Saga tour of southern Italy and eastern Sicily during a 40+ degree heatwave. The owners are quite charming and they, and all their staff, were so very keen to please. And please me they certainly did. The food in the hotel is very good indeed, the room I stayed in on the 2nd floor (with a small but perfect balcony overlooking the charming town of Altomonte), and the huge terrace and superb pool were splendid. I would most certainly want to return to the Barlieri at some point in the future.

Great hotel, great staff, great food! The best hotel in Altomonte! There are amazing views from the hotel to the town and surroundings, breathtaking... they had welcoming drinks for us, what was unexpected but really nice.

We spent three nights in this friendly, family run hotel in the delightful hill town of Altomonte. We could not fault the hotel. Our room was large and comfortable with a view to the old town with its castle and cathedral and to the mountains beyond. Food and service were excellent. There are large outdoor areas perfect for enjoying lunch or just a drink. The family has a commitment to fresh local produce much of which is grown on the property. We were encouraged to pick cherries and sun-warmed white mulberries from the garden and we enjoyed a pasta making lesson. The family members ensured our short stay was perfect.
Getting to this hotel from Bari without a car was a bit of a challenge but there is a comfortable bus going to Spezzano Albanese and it is then just 20 minutes by taxi or transfer to the hotel. Altomonte makes a perfect base for exploring the dramatic Pollino National Park and it's charming villages.
