Great family run hotel with warm welcome and very good facilities for all types of holiday makers. I would very much like to return at my own time. Very handy location in an interesting part of Italy. The rooms were very comfortable and efficiently run. Meals were on time and good value for our package terms. We were a large party but I heard no complaints at all

This is a family run hotel. we enjoyed our conversation with Enzo, the owner. We met his daughters and grandchildren, a wonderful warm family. We enjoyed our meals there at the hotel. The view from the outdoor patio was incredible. I highly recommend.

We had a fabulous two day stay at the Hotel Barbieri. The hotel is located in the lovely Calabrian town of Altomonte and is within walking distance of the old town. Hotel Barbieri is owned and run by the wonderful Enzo and Patrizia Barbieri and their children. It is a beautiful property and the people who staff the hotel and restaurant are kind, friendly and very helpful. We had two terrific dinners with the hotel. The first dinner was at their Cantinetta in the old town where we had an excellent dinner with the very competent and helpful Carlo as our waiter. The second evening we had a fabulous dinner at the hotel. The food at Hotel Barbieri is exceptional. The hotel also sells many of their delicious products at their Bottega adjacent to the hotel. Enzo Barbieri helped make our stay extra special by recommending special towns for us to visit and by sharing his passion for the foods of the region.
We have lived in Italy and travelled extensively through out all the regions of the country. This particular area is incredibly beautiful and the Hotel Barbieri is a jewel and one to which we’ll definitely Italy return.

My trip included a luncheon at this lovely hotel. The hotel is a place I wish I had spent more time. The amenities are great. The pool area is perfect. The views are amazing. The food was delicious. It’s the family that put much effort into making everything better.
Next time I’m in Italy, I definitely want to stay there.

Located on a hill overlooking the main part of the village of Altomonte which was a 15 minute stroll away, we stayed at this hotel for 3 nights as part of a tour around Southern Italy. As you would expect with the hotel being in the Calabrian hills (mountains?), the route to the hotel from the main autostrada is picturesque and not without its testing moments, especially if you are in a 50 seater coach trying to navigate tight bends and facing approaching cars (or vice versa); nevertheless, the journey is well worth it, while the hotel has a comfortable feel, made even better by the friendly attitude of the hotel’s owners/staff.

We were required to select from a table d’hote menu 24 hours in advance of each dinner, but the choice was good with at least 3 dishes available for each of the 3 courses while red and white wine was included (I don’t know whether this is standard or only applicable where the tour operator has stipulated this). The food was good, probably more rustic than fine dining but nevertheless typical of dishes from the area and enjoyable.

Breakfast was a self-service buffet with the usual array of breads, cakes, cold meats and cheese, cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt as well as scrambled eggs, bacon, very tasty tomatoes, juices and hot drinks.

The best meal, however, was probably a 3-course lunch for €12-15 (can’t remember the exact cost) with a very generous portion of minestrone soup, approximately a dozen cold dishes including aubergine, courgette, octopus, squid, spiced meat and salad items. Plus red/white wine and a choice of dessert.

The bedroom was comfortable and generally quiet (except when neighbouring rooms were raising the shutters although this was a good indicator that it was time to get up!). We found that our plug adaptors would not fit within the room sockets but reception was able to provide an intermediary adaptor that solved the problem.

The hotel has a shop selling various local wines, antipasti and sauces but you need to ask at reception when they can open it - perhaps it would be easier if it automatically opened at a stipulated time, allowing people to browse at leisure rather than hurriedly in fear that the receptionist is being kept from other duties.
