We booked this hotel based on the Trip Advisor ratings via Booking.Com. I stayed with my 2 teenage children.
Firstly I have to advise that for comparison I have not stayed at any other hotels in Hakuba and additionally we had stayed at Hyatts and Westins and Intercontinentals elsewhere in Japan which were obviously well appointed and 4 or 5 star. Heidi Hof is three star at best.
The hotel arranged to collect us from the train station which was convenient and saved the hassle and cost of a taxi. It is obviously run by a family with the older parents speaking little or no English. The adult daughter/s did most of the required communication and we had no problems in this regard. The hotel also dropped us at the ski fields as required and also to down to the main part of town when we asked as well as when we left. This was much appreciated.
The "negatives" relate to the room and facilities. We found the room to be very disappointing considering we paid USD300 per night for a triple room. It was very small and had very little space with the three beds. The beds were not overly comfortable and neither were the pillows. The bathroom would not have been more than 1.5/2m sq and I think it was a modulated/prefabricated and basically bottled into the corner of the room and again with 3 people we had no room for hanging towels etc. We stayed in the adjoining building to the main building/reception so not sure if these rooms in the main building were any better/bigger.
We only had our room serviced after the first day as the second day they forgot and the third day one my children was not feeling well so we only requested fresh towels (which I sought the previous day) Also a bit of confusion with the wifi. We were not told there were 2 wifi networks so when we asked about the strength of the Heidi Hof network not working in the room we were then told of the second network which then worked.
Position of the hotel was great with Echo Land only a 5 min stroll away and a Lawson convenience and Spicy Ski Hire also only a block away.
So in summary the cost relative to the product offered was my biggest issue and perhaps other nearby hotels could be worse (or better). The price should be about 30-40% cheaper for the product offered.
