SO, we considered staying at the Benesse House but chose here instead, for budget reasons and for location. When we visited, we found that even price aside, this place was better. You are in the port town, and close to restaurants and to the public art onsen I love Yu (which is totally worth a visit). The restaurants around are inexpensive and very good. You can rent bikes nearby (I recommend electric assist for all of the hills), there is a market just up the street with produce, snacks and food, and the hostel has a refrigerator upstairs as well as one below, and a kitchen. The included breakfast of toast, butter and jam, and tea/coffee was totally adequate to start us off. There are 2 coffee shops right near the hostel (across and down the street). There is also a beach you can swim at right near the ferry. the room we stayed in, triple, was at the front of the hostel and had a nice view over the small town. The a.c. worked great as well.

We are glad we stayed here and not Benesse. after visiting Benesse, we thought it was was way too isolated for us, and you would be eating your meals there, which would be costly and limited in scope.

We stayed for one night to explore the galleries. We hired electric bikes to get around. The accommodation was clean and four of us slept in the room, two adults and two teenagers. There was plenty of room a loo and good shower and fully equipped kitchen. The room was warm and all the bedding more than adequate. On Mrs Maroulla's recommendation we ate at Little Plum and it was very good. The accommodation is only a 10 minute walk to the ferry so very handy. For a brief stay would definitely recommend.

Great location, within walking distance from everything - and that is what you pay for. Basic rooms, cold bathrooms, funny smell in hallways, with some noise from nearby road. Simple breakfast included.

This hostel is only about 5 minutes walk from the main port, so very useful! Even though we arrived early we were able to leave our stuff, and were given a really big tatami mat room. We only stayed one night so this was ideal.

Rooms were clean and tidy, and the ladies who ran the place were wonderful, they even gave us some umbrellas to keep when there was a torrential downpour! Naoshima isn't very big so it's easy to get about on bikes, it's also pretty quiet, especially on Monday nights (as all the galleries are closed). This meant we had some trouble finding somewhere to eat that night, which was a shame as there looked like there was some cool places! Luckily Japanese hospitality kicked in and an old man walked around with us until we found somewhere – an incredible sushi place right over the road!

This hostel is brilliant if you like cheap and cheerful, with location as key.

Very friendly host, even though we didn't get to see much of her. Location is perfect, being about a 5 minute walk to the harbour and bus stops. We stayed in the Japanese style room, compared to other futons we've used it was very comfortable. Would recommend as a place to stay to explore the island. Cin.na.mon is right around the corner for dinner which is also very convenient. Spark's coffee across the road is also great coffee and food.
