Loved the Sukau Rainforest Lodge - what a cool setting. Our guide, Afon Ejo was amazing - she was knowledgeable, caring, fun and dedicated to preserving the ecological landscape she guides people through. The Lodge itself was comfortable, easy to navigate around, food was good, staff super friendly. Great experience.

we have just been on a 4 day trip to the sukau resort and it was amazing. lots of experiences, cool boat tours great guides especially Jonathan. highly recommended. Good food and room. We see the big 5 of Borneo the first dag. Amazing.
What a fantastic place this is! We saw 4 of the big 5 within a few hours of arriving but unfortunately never saw the elephants. Beautiful setting beside the river with the accomodation set amongst the trees. Our room (one of the older ones) was clean and very comfortable and the food in the restaurant was very good. The highlight of the stay was seeing the orangutans, a memory we will remember for a long time. Thanks Sukau and the staff!
Overall a very gentle way to see the Borneo big five on the rivers, not much walking, and no leeches. We had a perfect sighting of an orang-utan mother and child just 20 m above our mini-villa. The guide I think called Faizal, was absolutely super and it was a miracle how he spotted things.
Judging by our villa with a little balcony its well worth upgrading if the budget can manage it, it was fantastic. Food is largely Malaysian and good without being Michelin starred but the restaurant location is very beautiful. A couple of tips. One hooch in Malaysia is expensive so if you want a G and T make sure you bring your duty-free. Two the bat cave trip is worthwhile, but don't expect too much of the two million bats escaping. Maybe we were unlucky but by the time we saw them they were at 10,000 feet and climbing and looked like very distant grapeshot.
Me and my wife booked a 3D2N experience with Borneo Eco Tours. Our guide Fernando was super friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about wilife and more recently about insects ;)
We enjoyed every cruise with him amd managed to see almost the great five (except Pygmy elephants), but as everyone should be aware of, its a hit and miss because wild animals walk their own routes. Thank You Fernando!
A few friendly suggestions:
most of the people arrive to Sandakan airport fairly early in the morning, it would be nice to have the information that in Sepilok orangutan sanctuary there is a caffee where You can have a decent breakfast.
Also some possibility to drink some water on the tourbus and boat would be highly appreciated (if its somehow possible without plastic bottle waste).
A few words about the lodge (we stayed in the superior room):
Rooms are exceptionally clean, there is a fan and new A/C installed. During the night we prefered to use the fan and closer to the morning we switched even that off.
Plenty of electrical plugs can be found around the room.
There is a small sofa in the bathroom area where You can doze off whilst watching the jungle.
Food is served in the restaurant, buffet style and i personally have not had so good buffet food by a hotel for a very long time! Compliments to the chef!
The boardwalk is nice specially during the early or late hours.
All the talks held in the Ape gallery of the lodge are also very interesting.

Lack of knowledge by the travel consultant about the different itinerary possibilities, caused us huge financial loss and a nightmare to and fro journey.
However, the resort is excellent and the staff are super good!
I only wish we stayed there longer to enjoy the place and hospitality.
