I agree with the TA reviews that mention how this hotel has beautiful views, clean rooms and is a little away from the main area of Taganga but the reason for my low rating is the service. I knew the service would be off because of the email and phone calls interactions prior to my arrival. In all of the interactions with the staff I just felt that it was adversarial. Upon arrival there was no offer to help with our luggage and the front desk staff was not friendly or welcoming. A perfect example of our experience with the staff: We invited a friend from Santa Marta for lunch and at the front desk they would not let him enter. We understand that unregistered guest can not go into the rooms but a unregistered guest can't come to the restaurant? We questioned this policy and the reception person gave in but with the stipulation that the person could not go in the water??!!!??? At this point I responded that we were not going to go swimming but that there was no problem we would spend our money at one of the local restaurants. I really wish that I could give a good review because the views are really beautiful but with no exceptions the staff was very unwelcoming, not friendly and just looked like they did not like working in this hotel. We will not be back.

It is a shame for us to hear that your experience in our hotel was not up to your expectations. The priority for us is to offer all of our customers the best service we can, and as part of that we had to develop strict policies in terms of usage of the common areas of the hotel. Considering the size of our swimming pool and the jacuzzi, and that we have 32 rooms, we only allow our clients to enter these areas. Imagine what would happen if all our customers decided to bring their friends to use our facilities.

Our restaurant is open to the public in general and not only to our customers, so there was a big misunderstanding in regards to our reception staff not letting your friend in.

We take our customers comments very seriously and will continue working to improve our service standards.

We stayed here either side of our ciudad Perdida trek, and it was perfect. Staff were extremely helpful, and extremely patient with our lack of Spanish, and owner Raphael was on hand with perfect English and lots of helpful local info. The views from the lovely pool are astounding, right across the bay, and the food from the restaurant was really good. We really loved our stay here - exactly what we needed after four days in the sweltering jungle!

If you peruse reiviews of Taganga over the last few years, they all highlight the dangers and problems (dirt, crime, overdevelopment) with this fishing village. Unless this is a clever device used to the Cognescenti to keep the riff raff away and the place to their own, by July 2017 this advice is completely outdated. The municipality has put up cameras in the village center and around the beach, and there a large sotlights illuminatng the baches at night. So by all means, do travel there, it is a great and realxed spot on the coast. When we were there, we saw many families arriving, a sure sign that drug travel is diminishing. Of course, in all likeliood, you will receive the odd invitatio to buy some smokes, but not more so than in parts of Spain, Paris or London.

Another case in point for travelling there is the wonderful Bahia Taganga. Situated right on the end of the beach, it offers wonderful views of the bay and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.. Rooms are a bit pricier than directly in the middle of the beach, but the quality of rooms and helpful staff make up for it. If you do want to splurge a bit, take one of the rooms higher up with beach views. You will never need the A/C on as you will have a constant sea breeze in your room. Rooms were clean and well serviced. Staff speak a bit of English and can arragne tours, taxis etc for you. The hotel pool and whirlpool are also a nice feature. Even if you do not stay in one of the higher up rooms , make sure to climb all the way to the top of the hotel for a terrace with a magnificent view.

Room Tip: The higher up the room the better. But be prepared to pay for it.

We enjoyed our two night stay at Hotel Bahia Taganga during our honeymoon in May 2017. The facility was clean, the rooms were nice (we selected their most expensive room-type since it was our honeymoon so I can't speak to other room types), the views were great, and the pool was absolutely amazing. The staff was very helpful from bell service (I don't normally use it but they met us at the car and you immediately see all the stairs!) to activity recommendations to helping arrange departure transportation. The bell-person even showed us two room types to choose from and when we selected the more expensive one that had a broken curtain he took us to another room instead of trying to stick us with a defective product (I've stayed in and worked in 4-diamond hotels that don't even do this).

If you have trouble with stairs this hotel might not be a good option. Also, they could use some updates/refresh to the property overall (toilets, bed, doors) and the breakfast and breakfast service was mediocre. But the hotel was was clean, comfortable (the beds only marginal but that seemed common in Colombia), and we felt safe. And the views from our 5th-floor room and from the pool were stunning. And they have the facilities in place to offer pool-side and patio dining and drinks in the busier season. The hotel even has a couple hidden nooks and rooftop options to handle the increased guests during busy season.

We where there in downseason (hence them being able to show us various room types) so they had a lot of flexibility and we had the pool to our selves. Their services were scaled down yet they keep fixed pricing year-round. So on the one hand it was a great value because we had the place to ourselves (and literally another couple rooms) but on the other usually hotels lower prices in low season. However, between having the place to ourselves and comparing what we paid for our room versus a similar stay in most ocean-side destinations this was a great value and an option we were very happy to have selected. And our dollar (or peso) went much further here than in Cartagena, Medellin, and even Santa Marta.

I used Taganga as a base for a month mid Feb - March, I traveled alone for 8 weeks.
Although there are some pretty messed up people on the beach, poor people who have clearly abused drugs, they never once bothered me or even looked at me. One particular guy from Argentina collects bottles in return for coins, he looks scary but actually very harmless and he is after all cleaning up the beach. I found the true locals to be warm and friendly, however I didn't get drunk alone and wander around Taganga late at night, and I was never offered drugs once, perhaps I look like CID, who knows, I think if you are street wise and sensible you will be fine. Taganga is a real community with some wonderful people, its a shame to miss out on this and opt for somewhere more cache or over developed.
