We had last minute change of plans and wound up here because all other resorts were booked. Could not believe our luck!! I found this one online via agoda.com but was too nervous to book it due to lack of TA reviews. Turns out there are many TA reviews but we could not find them due to it being listed under Duong Dong Town Hotels rather than Phu Quoc Island Hotels. It is located right next door to Blue Lagoon on one side and A 74 Hotel on the other which are both listed as PQ Island hotels.
Just as we stepped into the PQ airport there is a counter on the left with a Thein Hai Son rep. We told her we wanted to see the place first so she put us in a cab that we would only have to pay for if we chose not to stay there. The bungalow was huge with a comfortable mattress and as you can see from our pictures the place is beautiful so we stayed. The bellman oversaw our luggage into the room and showed us how to work the in room safe etc.
This is a 3 star resort with 4 STAR SERVICE! The staff were excellent in all areas and spoke reasonable English to handle just about anything we needed. An example of superior service: My wife wanted to borrow a knife to cut a mango in our room. Rather than saying NO we don't allow that she offered to cut our fruit for us there in the kitchen since they are not allowed to loan out the cutlery. The beach attendant will put a lounger wherever you like and provide lounge pads and towels. The fruit baskets in the rooms are refreshed daily along with the bottled water. The toiletries were refreshed daily including a new toothbrush each day. Also, the maid service always waited until you were out to refresh the room.
The laundry service did an excellent job on our clothes but it was very expensive.
The all you can eat breakfast bar was great but you still want to get there early for best selections. Did not notice unsanitary conditions relative to anywhere else in Vietnam - actually one of the cleanest. They even purify their own tap water. Also no bugs in the bungalow or problems with mold for us but this may be different in the rainy season.
We had plenty of hot water in both sink and shower. The wifi was solid in the breakfast area, our bungalow, and even on the beach.
The pool looked nice but never used it. The hotel grounds and gardens are absolutely beautiful and constantly maintained.
We paid $83 (total) per night for garden bungalow, the beachfront was sold out at $92 per night (agoda listed it at $125 before taxes!). Don't know the prices for the rooms inside the hotel building.
The spa service had a nice massage but you really need to make an appointment earlier in the day for a night massage. Not as good as My Spa in HCMC but way better than the untrained $5 massage on the beach.

Spent only two nights at Thien Hai Son but enjoyed the resort. The rooms are a bit old and outdated but still elegant and well maintained. I stayed in the main building on the second floor, There is no elevator lift. Had a problem with the water flow in the bathtub but maintenance addressed it but still no drain plunger in Room 215. Lighting was poor but the high ceilings and outside deck were an asset. There is a good writing desk and the room wireless Internet worked well.
Maid service was excellent with a young friendly maid. Front office staff were warm and friendly and I nogotiated a discount on the single room.
Beach is super great! Sunset Bar is friendly with an outstanding setting.
Swimming pool is large with comfortable lounges and clear clean water.
Included breakfasts are outstanding. Side chefs prepare eggs and condiments to order. Crepes are coming off the grill and some sort of crisp egg dish they do is just great.
Plenty of choice, good breads, bacon and ham and excellent coffee.
I would stay here again.

There are health and safety issues at this hotel that the management need to act on. There is a major problem with flies in the dining-room. Food is displayed for hours with flies infecting the food, plates, cups, cutley and set tables with tablecloths on.
This is due to the wide open windows with no fly screens and open doors as their is no air con. Smoking is being allowed in the dining-room while guests are eating. The water quality in the swimming pool is cloudy and murky due to the pool not being chemically cleaned sufficently. The bed matteress are made of a hard latex rubber material which is most uncomfortable, along with the rock hard unpadded solid wood armchairs in the bedroom. If one is looking for a hotel with bed, sitting comfort and basic hygiene conditions, FORGET STAYING HERE! Most disappointing indeed and not up to an acceptable standard.

We had a 'garden view' villa, but we could still see the beautiful beach from the window. This resort of villas and apartments is located right in the middle of Long Beach which is a fantastic location in Phu Quoc.

For the money we paid for the resort, we expected perhaps a slightly higher quality of decor. They were perfectly liveable though, with air-con (albeit a little noisy).
The bar on the beach is a good spot to watch the sunset, but again, a little overpriced for the area. Although, most of the places on the beach appear to be charging similar prices.

The main complaint would be the pool which was a little dirty and sometimes filled up with locals.

Overall, I wouldn't tell someone not to stay here, but I would probably try somewhere else if (when) going back to Phu Quoc.

I was apprehensive before arriving at Thien Hai Son, since my first choice was to stay at The Sofitel La Veranda which was booked out. The agent had booked us 2 bungalows, each had a queen and single bed@ $75US per night per room. After some mix up at reception regarding our booking, we were taken to our bungalow. All the bathroom menities are available , flip flops for the beach, laundry service available but no in room iron. But, opposite the hotel there are little convenient stores where you can buy snack and drinks are laundry services at about $1 a kilo of washing. We had a welcome basket of tropical season fruits.
We just had lunch at the Sunset bar, and we thoroughly enjoyed the ly back atmosphere. Our waiter was informative and accommodating . I had my Vietnamese coffee fix and seafood fried rice and salad, washing the surf gently breaks , and sun bathers dozed.
So much value for money, the hotel is old but has a certain charm of old french colonial that I can't help but fall in love with. I would skip the pool and just hang on the beach.... All day alll night...
