Owner description: Rathwood is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Ireland with charming activities that everyone from Grandparents to Grandchildren can enjoy together; free children’s playground, Express train, woodland walks, birds of prey centre and restaurant as well as an array of shops. There is something for everybody. Rathwood, is particularly famous for its Express Train which takes you around the extensive forest grounds, watch out for the deer and sheep along the way and see if you can spot their newly born offspring. It even has a little stop off at the pond to allow you to feed the ducks and geese with food provided by the Train driver. In addition, Rathwood offers attractions such as the Falconry, which is an outdoor educational Bird of Prey Centre where eagles, hawks, falcons and owls from around the world can be seen on display; free Forest walks, with two easy trails that the whole family can enjoy; free children’s playground; cookery classes for both adults and children; deer park and much, much more. Furthermore they house an excellent restaurant which offers an array of delicious lunch dishes and tempting home baking. They are famous for their scrumptious chocolate mud pie and double layered pavlova and all Rathwood's cakes are baked daily by their talented Pastry Chef Margaret, who has been with them for over 18 years. Special diets eg coeliacs are catered for with a delicious selection of gluten free meals and treats. Rathwood hosts a number of special seasonal events throughout the year and advance booking is highly recommended eg The Santa Train - Ireland’s most popular Santa visit with magic and interactive fun with Santa, Mrs Claus and the Elves. The Rathwood Centre in addition to their attraction host an array of shops for you, your family, home and garden. Rathwood has something for the whole family that will make you want to return time and time again.

There’s a lot to do at Rathwood for all, a trip on the Easter Egg hunt, teddies bears picnic, the garden centre and a large amount of gift and shopping.
A day out.
The restaurant is nicely laid out and the food orders are taken at the counter and served to your table.
The choice of food is vast from deli bar, hot snacks to dinners an the cake and coffee are a must.
Till service is fast and efficient.
A little pricey.
Lacks a bit of atmosphere.

The food in the restaurant was delicious but the shop was very similar to other up market home stores such as Avoca and Meadows and burn with slightly less variety for that reason I think it is over rated

Staying close by for the weekend so we decided to take the kids and visit this place as we had heard a lot about it. There was plenty to do for the kids and adults alike with great shops, albeit expensive, good playground and a very nice restaurant. We started with a walk as the weather was good and we walked for about an hour and it was pleasant and peaceful and even the younger ones enjoyed it. Then they spent a while in the playground before lunch.

Lunch was lovely and the selection of desserts and cakes was amazing. I had a browse round the shops but found them to be high-end and expensive but lovely for a browse. If I was on my own I would spend longer looking round the shops and it would be very enjoyable!

All in all its a very nice place to while away a few hours as there is something for everyone and I can see why its very popular.

I would visit again if I was in the area.
