My family and I (6 adults and a child) were traumatized when the deck on which we were seated totally collapsed, hurling some of us onto the muddy ground and others of us into a mass of broken floorboards.. some studded with rusty nails. Mercifully, we only experienced bumps and scratches which healed over the next week and a half. We were blamed for this collapse by the manager although there were no warning signs to indicate that the deck would collapse if more than 2 -3 persons sat on it.

After a perfunctory expression of sympathy, we were informed that our plight would only be dealt with after the insurance company had reviewed the situation. Eventually, the charge for one night for one cottage was grudgingly waived (at my suggestion).
We did not feel that our disturbing experience at the hotel was important to the senior staff member on duty.
There was a lack of concern and empathy for what could have been a more damaging and injurious experience.. Training in this area is needed.

A very nice place hidden away in north Trinidad. The hotel is very isolated and beautiful so great for private getaways. The food and service were great and the room very modern yet natural.. I will revisit

We stayed at acajou with some friends and it was a lovely ambience. We attempted to see hatchlings but were too late, only helped some turtles to the sea. Was a really great experience and the food was amazing

Really enjoyed my time here with my boyfriend. Very quiet, relaxed and enjoyable. The rooms are great and though the beach is not always the nicest for swimming the rivers around the area are beautiful to explore.

My family stayed at Acajou for one night, we rented the family cottage and a standard cottage. The cottages were very clean and well kept and the staff friendly. The beach is nearby, walking distance and since it is turtle nesting season we were able to see hatchlings released to the sea. It rained a lot the second day (rainy season in Trinidad) so we did not get to walk around as much as we wanted and revisit the turtle center. In the night around 3am a tree fell and pulled down the electricity line and we were out of electricity up to the time we checked out, this hotel does not have a backup generator supply. The family cottage has a ladder to a small attic (with 2 single beds on the floor) so if you have a toddler like I do its a bother since my daughter kept on climbing up/down which is a safety hazard. Also the back porch does not have a front railing in the family room so not a kid playing zone. Lastly the wind blew in the rain on the attic in the night so my father-in-law who slept up there got a little wet and had to hang a sheet up to block the rain. Overall the place was nice and we understood that the electricity outage was caused a natural disaster so the hotel could not help this. I am giving a 4 rating, since we did have a wonderful time at the beach and the rooms were very clean and the ambience very relaxing.
