.Had a wonderful stay at this gorgeous resort. Set in a picturesque countryside with incredible views. Had half board with breakfast (mostly continental) and one meal which had great choices. Was with a group of 7 women and we had a fantastic visit. The resort is very convenient to many of the small towns. (40 min to 1+ hour). Got a winetasting and cooking class (extra 30 euros). Really enjoyed both. A big shout out to the staff who were wonderful. Especially Luigi who was the restaurant manager. We loved this guy! Would highly recommend this resort.

Dear Sirs,

First of all, we would to thank you for your review, it is really important for us to improve our services.
We are glad to see you enjoyed all our services, including wine testing and cooking lesson. The wine testing is in a winery near here, about 20 minutes from the hotel and is very nice to visit and very good the wine. The cooking lesson is a great experience if you want to learn how to prepare the handmade pasta.
We wait for you in the future, best regards.

From the moment we drove up through the gates I knew this place would not disappoint. It exceeded my expectations and is actually better than it looks in the photos. I was immediately impressed with the staff on arrival and the room was spacious and very comfortable. Dinner was excellent but sadly breakfast was a real disappointment. The coffee was undrinkable and in a land that is famed for coffee I was more than surprised. Also the juice was from a machine. I would definitely suggest visiting this gem of a hotel.

This is a beautiful hotel set in the picturesque countryside of Umbria. Staff are friendly and helpful, the pools are so clean and not too cold, the rooms are very spacious and clean and the food was fantastic - albeit a little 'different' for our picky nine-year-old. There is a lot of choice on the menu though and it's all cooked and served to perfection. I can't recommend this hotel enough. It's great for a quiet, romantic stay or for a base to explore Umbria and nearby Tuscany. It's also good for families and has a lot of facilities including a pool, gym, board games and a sauna and spa. The hotel also offered cooking lessons, a vineyard tour and trips to nearby towns and villages.
Even the car park is pretty! I would return in a heart beat! Thank you Relais Il Canalicchio! We had a fantastic holiday!

We booked a one week holiday through Fleetway Travel. Our flights, accommodation and half board were the price that we have sometimes paid for flight only. We were not expecting too much. The hotel is perched high on a hill along a narrow winding road. Once the hotel is reached, the views are wonderful. All you can hear is the sound of birds. We were upgraded to an apartment and had a bedroom, bathroom, small living room and a terrace. The swimming pool that is attached to the apartments is clean and we always found loungers to sit on and umbrellas for shade. The pool is cool but very refreshing. We read books and watched Swallows picking insects out of the air. The pool areas were never crowded, this is because most people coming here hire a car and are out visiting places of interest in the vicinity as we did. Our apartment had a rustic feel but was clean. We had a fridge and a safe. There were air conditioning units which worked well. The apartments are made of thick stone which was quite effective at keeping out the heat of the sun. The restaurant was fine. We were able to choose 3 courses from the 4 course menu. We all found something that we could eat each evening and enjoyed some meals more than others but that is inevitable. The breakfast could be improved by fresh fruit juice - but I'm not complaining - this was a great holiday at a bargain price. The wine was about 15 euro. The hotel has 4 mountain bikes that can be used free of charge. They have tennis rackets and balls that you can use on their tennis court. We enjoyed a game of pool some evenings. The spa is lovely. The views from the jacuzzi are sublime. In particular the staff were great - without exception they were friendly and helpful. If you want information on where to park, what to visit, a map - just ask - they can't do too much to help. The wine tour was informative and the amount of wine on offer at the tasting was more generous than any tasting I've been to. There is a supermarket at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill. There are also a couple of very cheap cafes selling ice-cream, snacks, pizza, wine etc. There are loads of places to visit, Assisi and Perugia are lovely. Make sure to explore the side streets in Perugia as they are so characterful.
Myself, my husband and my teenage children enjoyed this holiday. There are the pools, the scenery, the history in the vicinity, the spa, the friendly people - the list goes on. The region is not expensive - a pizza in the main square in Assisi cost 6 euros - ice creams (very large and very nice) were 2.5 euro. If you want scenery, peace, history and charm then you won't be disappointed. We had limited expectations of this holiday and found ourselves having a wonderful time!

Room Tip: I think that they each have their own character.

We are really glad you enjoyed the time here with us at the Relais il Canalicchio.
We are glad you loved also the Umbrian area that is beautiful with all this middle eve cities and villages. Assisi is the most important for San Francesco, Perugia for its history, it was an Etruscan city then Romanic and middle eve city with a big history on its streets.

I've always been a fan of Italy, and enjoyed every holiday I have had there - but can say without question that this is the best hotel, and the nicest part of the country, which I have ever visited.

From the moment we arrived, we were gobsmacked by the sheer beauty of the hotel's setting. It's certainly off the beaten track - it would take some finding without a satnav! - but the peace, tranquility and views which result are well worth the journey.

Reception staff are friendly, courteous and helpful at all times, while the restaurant team are relentlessly attentive without being overbearing. Particular mention goes to Luigi, who seemed to be on duty every night of our 10-day stay, and who proved a real hit with our two children.

Our room - a family suite near to the hotel's main pool - was excellent. It offered plenty of space, was clean and comfortable, and afforded great views over the pool and rolling hills beyond. It was a quiet area, and sleep came easily - the only drawback was that although the rooms were air conditioned, the unit was not especially powerful and temperatures were a touch too hot at night.

The pool area was gorgeous and well maintained. The remoteness of the hotel made it an ideal point from which to explore Umbria and southern Tuscany, so daytimes were especially quiet; on the days we decided to relax by the pool, we never had any trouble securing sunbeds, and often had the pool to ourselves, which the kids loved.

We stayed on a half-board basis, and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Breakfast was a fairly standard buffet, but fresh and well-stocked, while evening meals were excellent for adults, if a little more challenging for children. Half-board guests choose three of the four courses available (each of which has four options) and we enjoyed a creative range of dishes including goose, duck, wild boar and a variety of seafood. Everything was fresh, well prepared and beautifully presented. I'd also heartily recommend the locally-produced prosecco on the wine list - absolutely delicious, and at 15 euros, a real steal. The west-facing dining area offers stunning views of the setting sun each night too, adding a real sense of atmosphere to your meals.

Location-wise, the hotel is ideal if you're looking for a rural escape - but close enough to explore some of central Italy's more famous sights too. We visited Florence, Pisa, Perugia, Assisi and more, and found the hotel a perfect base from which to venture further afield. Travel is easy (if expensive, by the time you factor in high fuel prices and motorway taxes), and we enjoyed the sights across rural Umbria and Tuscany during our journeys.

Criticisms? I honestly can't think of any. Relais Il Canalicchio is a marvellous hotel, staffed by lovely people, in a stunning part of the world. I would return in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: All rooms offer great views, so you can't go wrong!

Dear Sirs,
thank you very much for your long review and for your beautiful words.
We are glad you enjoyed the time here with us at the Relais il Canalicchio and that you catch its atmosphere.
This is an old castle with all the rooms different per size, colour and private name. It is up the hill and surrounded from other hills with a beautiful view from the room and a beautiful sunset everyday.
We wait for you in the future, best regards.
