Amazing hotell, with good service, beautiful facilities, good location if you want to stay at the hotel and relax. This is not the hotel if you want to go out every night because its a bit far from the town. But there are busses that drives all the time. Remember to book private pool, and go to the spa and do your nails!

Room Tip: Private pool

We stayed one week at this hotel in a room with private swimming pool.

The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is of good quality (expensive materials). However, there are many negative points: the water drainage system of the bathroom doesn’t work well (you end up with 5-7 cm water around your feet when showering), the quality of the bed (pillows, mattress and sheets) is very bad, and there are many imperfections (damaged curtains, visible cables, broken material...), all the towels for the beach are very damaged and not soft. The private swimming pool was clean and nice but it wasn’t really private as people can see you from above the trees which are used to create a natural wall. The balcony was nice but with cheap furniture in plastic (not the right kind when your room costs 300€ per night). Only the rooms with direct view on the swimming pool have a nice view. For example, the rooms with “sea view” in reality have direct view on the main local road (noisy because of the local bus passing in front of the window)- you can see the sea only 100 meters further.

The beach located at a very close distance from the hotel is rocky, not very nice, and is mainly surrounded by abandoned buildings/land. If you stay at this hotel, take the opportunity to visit other beaches on this side of the island: the quality is much higher than the beach at the hotel.

The hotel and its garden (although beautiful) doesn’t fit to the local landscape. In general the hotel has many imperfections.

The service was not very good and you can easily see that people working at the hotel are not well trained. Also, you feel the staff lacks of professionalism which fits to a 5 stars hotel. Of course there are a few limited exceptions like the people working at the spa.

The breakfast was very good and the food of the hotel nice but nothing exceptional. But to the near village there are a few nice restaurants with great food.

The spa is nice (with a few imperfections here too). As I mentioned above the people working at the spa are very friendly and professional. If you visit try sessions with Sofia and Kyriaki. They are amazing masseurs.

Bottom line, Yes the infrastructure is very good but don’t book it if you look for a 5 stars hotel.

Let's start with the positive ... the facilities are beautiful. Good location although a bit isolated - 20min away from great sightseeing and shops. Caters to Scandanavaians which are great people to vacation with - friendly and family-oriented but not obnoxious. Also, a few good restaurants with good service around the corner from the hotel. Resort was very family-friendly and the rooms were nice.

Now for the negative. Most staff members are rude. The service is poor at best. Feels like a 2-star resort. I'm writing this review while sitting in the lobby at the RITZ CARLTON in Cairo - the service is day and night. We are use to much better service. Pool is freezing - we couldn't use it at all. Room was hot - called three times to fix the air conditioning but I just got attitude. The towel service is brutal - you need a card to retrieve a towel and you are limited to one each and you have to go to the main building to drop off/pick-up - so tacky!! The breakfast staff were useless at the smaller restaurant. They wouldn't welcome you or speak to you - no cutlery of napkins on the tables half the time. You'd have to wave them over If you wanted coffee and they seemed like they were inconvenienced. The bartender was super-friendly but super slow to make drinks. It to forever. If poolside, no-one would offer you drinks - you always had to go up to the bar. We are big spenders while on vacation but this resort made it difficult to spend money as the service was so bad.

I wouldn't return.

The best thing about this hotel was the great service provided by Elli in the Restaurant. She is service impersonated and I hope some of the staff in front desk will learn from her.
Also there was a manager in the restaurant (a guy in blue shirt) top notch service from him as well.

About the hotel in general.
the cleaning in the rooms was great.
The activities for children under 3 not so good. The space for children was no good, there was only 2 swings 1 small slide there were no indoor space were you could play with the small kids. Every day I had to search for someone to heat the child food for my boy. There were no microwave.
Well I could write an essay but I won't.
I won't recommend this hotel if you are traveling with children under the age of 3.

BUT I hope the management sees that they have a star in Elli.
Thank you for making my week great Elli.

Dear Lindatherese,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us.
Initially, we would like to thank you for your kind words regarding Elli and Mr. Manolis, the maitre. We will be more than happy to share your lovely words and comments with them. However, we are disappointed to see that your experience with us did not meet your expectations, especially considering the fact that there is a certified Creche Club for toddlers between 4 months and 3 years old, operating every day from 10.00 to 18.00 with a very well organized indoor area and lots of activities.

It is truly unfortunate that your experience hasn't been addressed in a timelier manner, as we would have provided several alternatives regarding all abovementioned issues in order to better assist you and make your holidays truly memorable!
Please do contact us directly at info@avraimperialhotel.gr at your earliest convenience so we may discuss any other remaining issues.

I have traveled around the world, and had visited Crete before, but for this Family celebration we decided to stay at the Avra Imperial, and we all had truly unforgettable time! It was me and my Grandmother who was celebrating her Birthday and we were joined by our Family Friends for 8 days stay at the Avra.

I should start with the fact that I am very hard to be pleased, but the Hotel and the Team had exceeded all my expectations! Starting from the great communication with Elena before our arrival to her involvement during our stay to ensure that we were pleased and satisfied throughout our stay. Furthermore I would like to mention Zoe who was a true ambassador of the Hotel, and of course Jimmy from the Front Desk - you guys were so friendly and professional that I will defenitly be back next year just to see you all again!

But now for all who are wondering whether to book this Hotel or not, my advise to you is to go ahead and do not hesitate because you will be truly spoiled. The Hotel and grounds are great maintained, and if you like to contemporary architecture you will be in heaven. We had a room with a private pool but whether you will decide to have your own pool or not you will still have plenty of fun in the most impressive ground up built main pool. The food was delicious, and everyone could find what they liked.

Furthermore the great chic atmosphere of the Hotel, lovely nearby town and amazing beach will make you wanna be back!

Again, huge shout out to Avra, and I will be back! I can say it is the best Hotel on the island, and yes maybe it is far but guess what isn't lovely to rent a car to explore the island?

Thank you Elena, Zoe, Jimmy and everyone else at Avra, I am looking forward to seeing you all soon, and I hope your professionalism will be noticed!
