“Not sure why there is a hype about this place”
Reviewed 27 January 2012

We ate one evening and the service was very ordinary , the food unexceptional and the price high for the quality of food . There are lots of day beds around a pool which we didn't use so cannot comment on them , I do think whoever owns the place has a great PR company to make it as popular as it is .

“Worst meal on holiday”
Reviewed 17 January 2012

We are currently using the free wifi at Beach Republic, which we have voted as being the best thing about this place.
Sitting on a stained day bed, our calamari arrived after 20min and resembled fossilized dinosaur bones and tasted what I imagine to be the same.
Our tabouli with flat bread was actually cous cous, and definitely not fresh.
The waiter was obliging and took the offending bones back to the kitchen, via the bar, where all the staff ate the majority.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments here. I am quite shocked to read of your experience. I can assure you that this is not the norm of Beach Republic. Actually, the Calamari is one of our most popular dishes. I have spoken with the staff directly and can assure you that the issues you pointed out have been resolved.

“Beach Republic Sunday Brunch”
Reviewed 8 January 2012

We came here in August 2011 for the Sunday Brunch. The weather was beautiful and we had a great day there. However, we did not return when we came back to Koh Samui in December 2011. While I'd still give the Beach Republic Brunch a thumbs up, we all felt there were little touches that were missing, which could have made the brunch a better experience. The desert options were limited, and more breakfast items could have been made available. But it is still a good brunch choice for the Lamai Area and I would still recommend it to others.

“This place could be impoved a little”
Reviewed 4 January 2012

In general had a good day at Beach Republic. We opted to have lunch and were very much looking forward to it, but out of 3 people none were satisfied, the two pasta dishes seemed to have a tub of cream in each totally masking my lobster (not worth 480 baht). The waitress was grumpy and sharp with us, but we all have our bad days.

We visited the day before and asked if we could reserve a bed as wanted to bring our friend for his bday, were told that it was not possible to reserve, so arrived at 930am the next day to get a spot only to find all beds with reserved sign on! I understand if this was for residents but wasnt explained to us, the staff managed to wiggle things about and got us a bed which appreciated. There was an area with quite a few sun beds which accommodated the outsiders. Bed covers grubby. Lovely pool and view and hard working staff.

This place has the potential to be so much better, I will come back again and give it another try.

“Decent place, not many vegetarian options”
Reviewed 3 January 2012

We were 4 couples who stayed at the resort for 5 nights and so made plenty of use of the in house restaurant.
The complementary breakfast buffet was "ok" and nothing great. The fruits were of average quality considering the fact that other places across the island had better taste and quality of fruits...even on the roadside stalls ! Rest of the stuff was standard, but they would need to upgrade the breakfast menu as well as keep on changing the items as no one likes to eat the same food every day for 5 days !
The compulsory gala dinner was THB 6500 per person....But they had only 2-3 options for vegetarians and so 50% of my friends was unhappy with the quantity of food they could eat...They were only serving "watered down" cocktails and sparkling water as a part of the gala dinner....all other beer and hard liquor had to be paid for ! I did not think this to be a fair proposition because of the huge amount we were paying for the gala dinner !
The other times when we used the restaurant to order at the beach chairs and also in the pool area, pizzas were good and so was some other stuff on their menu. But the service was SLOW at all the times, even during the gala dinner and morning breakfasts !
Apart from the ambience and the scenic view, I would not recommend this restaurant to tourists...
