My partner and I stayed at Faidra’s Olive Grove Villa for eight days during September. The private transfer we had arranged greeted us promptly on arrival at the airport and 40 minutes later, we were pulling up to the villa just outside Kontomari.
The villa is beautifully appointed, very private with a wonderful pool and stunning views of the Cretian Sea. The owners had kindly provided essential provisions (tea, coffee, milk etc) including wine and some local Raki, so we didn’t have to rush out on our first day to stock up.
The bedrooms are beautiful, all being en-suite, with the master boasting a fabulous balcony to take advantage of the views, which can also be enjoyed as you wake each morning. However, for us, the outside of the villa came into its own very quickly. The veranda/patio has a large dining table with seating for eight with a BBQ close by. Very convenient for alfresco dining. There is also a comfortable day bed to keep out of the sun whilst still enjoying all the outside has to offer.
The pool is spacious with a children’s area, again with marvellous views across the sea, which was very welcome on the hot days. There are also sunbeds for the most dedicated sun worshipers, as the villa gets the sun for the majority of the day.
The location of the villa is around a 20-30 minute walk into Maleme (the nearest bars and restaurants) and fortunately, is downhill. We would, however, recommend a taxi for the trip back as it is very steep and not very well lit during darkness. There are some great places to eat and drink in Maleme with the walk to the beach just a further five minutes for those who need the beach. It is very rocky however, as oppose to a sandy beach, which may not be suitable for very young children.
All in all, we were delighted with our choice of villa. Exactly what we wanted. We would highly recommend this property for those wanting a quiet, relaxed and very private holiday with the added bonus of entertainment close by should you need it.
