By all means go there for an interesting report from the nature Project taking Place, and their Little gift shop to support the Project. We bought local honey!

We stumbled upon this beautiful place while hiking around Furnas. Had a nice coffee. And as a tree lover I really liked the biggest Norfolk Island Pine in Europe.

I passed by this information centre when hiking around the lake. A modern style building, but it blends in perfectly with the environment. If you want to visit the exhibition inside, the entrance price is 3 €. Included in the visit is a 15 minute documentary about the protection and restoration of the lake. Not an must see, but it gives a good idea about the work done and the efforts that are still taken to preserve and protect the fauna and flora.
The small café on site sells drinks and snacks and has tables outside with a view of the lake. The coffee was very good.

High quality presentations, varied, educational but not hard work! Very welcome snack bar at entrance. The building itself is interesting also - almost hidden as it merges with the environment. Nearby is a lovely seat swinging from a tree.

Easily found on a circular walk around Furnas Lake (about 1.5 kms at most from main road), this is a small complex of modern buildings. There is no obvious reception or signs directing visitors to reception and no one to ask for more information. The cafe was also closed as we walked past at approximately 10.30.

Nearby is the Jose do Canto Forest Gardens (worth a visit - see separate review) and further round the lake some striking hot springs complete with board walk.
