Tiago was an excellent guide. The biology of this area is fascinating. Try the tea made directly from the hot spring. Excellent experience!

You need to park across the highway, it was .50 euros when we went. You can access the old church, the Gardens and the Research Center.
The center itself is really nice, it has a coffee shop, bathrooms and it's 3 Euros per person to enter. There's a short film to watch, and you can browse some local trees and look at some volcanic rock. It's not very big, but really nice and low key.

There is a large parking lot across the highway, that was free during our visit, from there you have to walk for about 5 -10 minutes to reach the center. Along the way you will pass the Gothic church and the garden Jose do Canto (excellent). The center has a nice snack bar, restrooms and a presentation room that is very informative. The center is working hard to reverse the effects of agricultural practices within the watershed of the lake. Cattle grazing and fertilizers have led to an abundance of Algae causing the green color of the lake. This is a very interesting and educational attraction.

We went there after a long walk around the lake. The centre is super interesting and the coffee is hot an delicious. We even had a little snack a bolo with cheese sandwich. :)
And the staff is so nice like everyone on the island.

If human influence and farming impact is tangible, then this is the place to make it visible in a nice and humble way, for each of us.
Gives the hope of the power of humanity not only to destroy but to regrow and fix past issues.
The lake and the view is stunning, we like it so much.
Nice little exhibition explaining the melioration.
