We dropped in to Gusto Riverfront Restaurant for lunch today; not a planned visit, just looking for somewhere nice to eat. As we walked into the entrance one of the floor staff immediately came over to welcome us and offer us a choice of tables for lunch. He was very friendly and after seating us, asked if we wanted water, sparkling or still and provided menus. He then pointed out that the oysters were Sydney Rock oysters at present. He then left us to contemplate our choices.
Another waiter returned a few minutes later and asked whether we were ready to order - I had a dozen oysters and then as a main course my wife had the Tortellini and I had whiting with in-house tartare sauce and chips. Several minutes later the oysters arrived - freshly shucked and they were outstanding with a very fresh salsa made from finely chopped red onion and watermelon with a citrus hint, maybe lime.
The pasta and the fish were also excellent. The fish was cooked exactly right, neither over or under cooked and the chips were better than average. We finished the meal with black coffee which was better than average but not outstanding.
One of the most notable observations was to do with the floor staff. Unlike a lot of today's restaurants, they actually worked and looked after their customers. So often one sees waiters/waitresses who bring dishes out to tables and then walk back to the kitchen passing tables where customers have obviously finished their meal but are just ignored; not so at Gusto. Here they would look around to see if they needed to attend to another table on their transit back to the kitchen; this is quite outstanding today.
We will be back for another meal in the future.
