The New Emerald Cove Hotel has a wonderful location next to Anse la Farine at the South East tip of Praslin. It is remote and peaceful, connected to the Baie St. Anne pier by the complementary hotel shuttle boat only. This is a big plus for those looking for quiet and relaxation in a resort embedded in the nature below black granite hills and next to tropical forest. You swim and snorkel directly from the great and never crowded hotel beach with an easy access to rich and colourful marine life. The resident biologist & guest relations officer conducts free snorkeling tours to the reef. The location is a handicap if you want action and a greater variety of food and entertainment than in the only restaurant and bar as you have to rely on the shuttle boat schedule to access the rest of Praslin.
Hotel staff gave us a warm welcome and never failed us during the ten days of our stay in the hotel. They went out of their way to take us to a private three islands tour of Felicité, Coco and Ave Maria. We would have hated to miss it: dolphins, turtles, a white tip reef shark and thousands of fish in all colours and shapes. They also arranged a perfect very early morning transfer to the airport on our departure. The friendliness of the staff, including the smiling barman and courteous waiters compensated the visible lack of recent investment in the hardware. We had a superior room in one of the eight cabins. It was simple functional and spacy with a lot of dark wood and a timeless interior. Bathroom was more modern, small but adequate and clean. The restaurant could use a touch-up but we liked it anyway. Breakfast buffet was good and buffet dinners were abundant but not great.

The hotel is remote, there is no road access, you have to take a boat to main jetty in Praslin. Being remote can be nice, except in the case you really have to rely on the hotel for meals, especially since they don't have any scheduled boat trips around dinner hours. The food served is beyond terrible, I ate better on the airplane. The dinner is also around 40 USD per person, so my wife and I were paying $80 (not including drinks) to eat worse than airplane food. We barely ate anything and essentially survived off steamed rice. We felt trapped. The hotel manager was very rude and responded to our meal plight with an "everyone else likes our food - what's wrong with you Americans" type attitude.

Seychelles in general is great, just don't stay here. We had a much better experience once we left New Emerald Cove.

If you are looking to stay in an old dark bugs infected cabana, this will be your dream place....
Everything is very old and worn out.
The room was not clean at all, dead bugs everywhere.
The hot shower ran out pretty quickly.
You are stuck in that place because they don't have any road access. You can call it privacy or freedom, but it felt more like a jail.
The best nightmare place.

We were supposed to stay four nights, we left after one. The hotel didn't offer us any refund (just a cheap massage, thanks heaps...)

Best part was the tortoises, that's it.

STAY AWAY FROM THAT PLACE

this hotel is very nicely situated on a beach with no car access: it gives you a feeling of "end of the world jungle" feeling.
the beach is great and of course calme and very low populated.
4 tortoises are living on the premisses: very entertaining for the kids: finding them and feeding them.
on a base of half board the food is great: at dinner time you have the choice between several creole dishes and grill of fish or meat.
the people are friendly and willing to help.
it's a nice place to go on excursion to other island: curieuse, bird, ...many things to do.
you can see sea turtles right at 5 meters from the beach, as well as rays and many other fishes.
no coral.
the rooms could receive some upgrade on decoration level and comfort, but overall, very good

Room Tip: if you are a couple: room on floor level. and for all: rooms with ocean view: definitively.

Ok the hotel is old, definitely needs refurbishment but it offers the best schnorkelling on the island. And as you pay quite low rates compared to rest of the island, i highly recommend it. Few notes:

- limited variety at the buffet but it tasted well and was more than enough
- best schnorkelling - definitely swim until the reef. the hotel offers free guided tour
- quiet land
- free turtles and beautiful birds kept our son entertained during our entire stay
- tea time free tea coffee and buscuits was one of the best parts of our stay
- just be aware that boat service runs only 4-5 times a day so better to check the schedule in advance. Otherwise you may have to wait 45min to 1hr. But good news that at your check-out if you have to leave at irregular hours the hotels provides boat service for free.
- very nice people working at the hotel, everyone is happy to help

Room Tip: The closer to the reception the better
