After two years back in the Schweizer Hof in Sils Maria. With its fine salt water pool, free outside sauna, free wifi, well located in a fine mountain area, it is for years one of my favourite places.
The rooms are a bit small, but well equipped. The managers Mrs. and Mr. Röthlisberger are friendly people, as is the staff, who know how to keep a hotel in good shape. This year we even got sun protection fluid in the bath room. Bravo.
Good breakfast, good dinners. My only complaint would be their very strange ‘water with your dinner arrangement’ that might have the outcome that you have to pay firmly for just some tap water. We know hotels in the region with a higher ranking where they serve you tap water just for free. So, my advice: reconsider your ‘water with your dinner arrangement’ Mrs. Katharina and Mr. Nico Röthlisberger. But summing up: you do a fine job.

Room Tip: I prefer the Val Fex view rooms with balcony

This hotel appears to cater for groups and families with young children. The bar is unusable by adults. Very limited choice of food in the evening. One vegetarian option but otherwise take it or leave it. In my opinion it's a mass market experience.

Dear wama_88
We regret that your stay didn't measure up to your expectations. Actually, we are focussed on families. At the moment, during the school holidays, there are staying more families than during other weeks.
For our guests we have several options for the half-board. From Monday to Friday you can choose from a selection of three menus. For organisational reasons, on Saturday and Sunday we only offer the menu with the meat course, the vegetarian alternative and the children’s buffet.
Also, you have the option to take advantage of the à la carte menu in the Arvenstube restaurant. If you have booked half-board, you’ll receive a CHF 25.– voucher for every full-paying guest.
Kind regards, Franziska G., Ferienverein hotel group

I stayed in a single room for four days in July with some friends, who were in a double room. The single room was small, but okay. I liked the new modern bathroom and the comfort of the somewhat wider single bed. But there are not many options for sitting comfortably. There is a chair that you can use when you're sitting at the small table. Unfortunately, the plastic chair on the small balcony was very uncomfortable. The balcony was not very inviting in terms of finding a place to relax and put your feet up. Otherwise, I was quite happy with the hotel and service. There was an adequate range and variety of food for breakfast and dinner, including vegetarian options. The landscape is quite spectacular and wonderful for hiking.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are quiet as there is not much traffic. If you don't mind the sound of running water, the river side is lovely.

This is a large hotel in a fairyland setting.A group of us (9) stayed here for 9 nights for the X-country skiing and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and closeness to all we wanted. The hotel staff have clearly lifted their game since some of the earlier reviews and extensive renovations and we were treated well. The rooms were comfortable and the food generally good. With half-board we had a variety of meals and options - we had fondu one night in Fex, arriving by horse and cart (extra cost) and several interesting smorgasbord meals. The hefty markup makes the wine expensive. There are two dining areas and the sun room is much better for an extra 5 Fr/d. A big bonus of the hotel is the warm pool facilities with jacuzzi, sauna and salt pools to revive in after a day of skiing. The hotel tries to attract families and so the pools were crowded sometimes with many children doing what they do but it's not hard to time your swim for other times. The hotel is located in a postcard setting and just off the ski trails and far enough away from St Moritz to be in a different world (you can never be far enough) but with frequent buses throughout the valley. Value for money anywhere in Switzerland is relative.

Decent hotel bordering between 3star to 4star standard, located just a short walk away from the main bus stop in Sils. The hotel appears to have been fully refurbished recently, as you can still smell the fresh wood along the corridors. Our room was clean, comfortable and we were given a complimentary bar of chocolate on check-in, which was a nice touch. Breakfast was decent, but not outstanding. There is a spacious but odd bar downstairs (odd because it was a bar/disco/pool table all-in-one) and a movie room and playroom for kids.

Service was a mixed bag, the front desk people were surly, and so were most of the breakfast staff. We saw a couple being ignored when they asked for their table at breakfast. We also had to find our own table as 5 staff members could not figure out the seating plan together. It does not appear to be flexible with last minute reservations for meals, and everything had to be pre-booked by a certain time. Check-out is at 10am for a 4pm check-in, which is quite an unreasonable window! most good hotels give a 2-3 hour turnaround, not 6 hours!

Good hotel, but let down by service.

Dear guest

Thank you very much for writing the detailed review. It is true that we have refurbished the rooms and corridors of 4 entire floors. We are glad that you have smelled the pleasant flavour of the Swiss pine wood.

We are sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with the service of some employees. The holiday season was busy and I am sure that they did not ignore any guests on purpose.

With the best wishes for the New Year,
Linda H., hotel group Ferienverein
