“A great place to come to enjoy beauty, nature and peace and quiet.”
Reviewed 3 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

This place is fantastic for those who want to enjoy genuine French culture. The house is very big and spacious, and with the free utilities (internet, satellite TV [in English or French]) provides you with entertainment even when you're not out in the beautiful sunshine or down by the river.

The place has an open front garden with barbeque and terracing with a view down to the river, and a large secure, enclosed back garden - a particularly nice feature is the 15ft wall made in French stone which houses a great selection of wildlife - good for the kids to do some lizard or butterfly sightseeing! This yard is accessed via steps (not very steep) and is enclosed on all sides with metal gates/walls - very good for letting our large dog run loose.

Something we like about the house is the WC room downstairs. This is good for nipping to the bathroom without having to go upstairs where the main bathroom is. Bathroom facilities are very good and the shower is nice and powerful.

We only used the main double bedroom, but there are two double bedrooms and one double bedroom with two single beds in for guest/kids. Bed is very comfortable and all were clean and made up with fresh bedding when we arrived.

We were taken aback when we saw the kitchen because from an English 'modern' perspective the oven and hob looks a bit old. Our fears were soon out of the window when we realised that the oven is the best we've ever used - if you want our advice you cannot stay here without cooking roast potatoes in it! They turn out amazing! Hob is also useful because it is a mixture of gas and electric hob to give versatility.

The fire in the living room pumps out the heat and the landlords very kindly left us some free wood to get us going.

As for Treignac itself.....it's not going to be your thing if you want to go clubbing and galavanting every night of the week. It's quiet, peaceful, serene and the locals are ultra friendly and accommodating. This is the sort of place that would suit those who like to do a bit of walking, some exploring, walking the dog, and prefer wholesome family activities like going to the local shops to buy your food and then spending the evening cooking and chatting around the large dining room table.

There are some friendly local bars and establishments, as well as a big supermarket, all within walking distance, although you will have to get used to the fact that Treignac (as in the rest of France outside of the major cities) goes to sleep after about 9pm.

For us, this is why we wanted to come here and this place is perfect!

Liked best: Very spacious property, great landlords, open fire and great heating/hot water system, great for pets, free French and English satellite TV, free internet.
Liked least: Not much to be honest - everything is totally fit for purpose and cosy.

“We didn't like the village of Treignac at all and wouldn't wish to return there.”
Reviewed 8 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

The owners of the house met us on arrival and were very friendly; they even provided a few toys for our granddaughter to play with. The house itself was quite large and well equipped, however we didn't consider it suitable for small children because of the many steep steps and we didn't think the garden was suitable for either our granddaughter or our dog because of the sheer drop on the one side. The house was Idefinitely not suitable for the elderly or disabled, as one had to climb steep steps to get to the living area.
Treignac itself was not, in our opinion, the prettiest village in France as we had been led to believe and had so many steep hills walking was no pleasure, in fact coming back down the hills with a pushchair was so hazardous, we only did it once! We realise we went to Treignac out of season, but the only bakers' shop open was at the very top of the village, the gift shop only opened for 4 hours (2 evenings for 2 hours) a week and the 3 cafes closed at 8 p.m. and did not serve food.
We spent some time at the lake nearby and this we all enjoyed, but otherwise the holiday was a big disappoinment and we would never consider going back to Treignac in the future.
