“A perfect place to unwind and relax”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2012

Had a quick 2 day stay at the Renaissance, and since I travelled here to unwind and relax, this beautiful resort ticked all my boxes.

From the beginning where we were escorted to our room for a personal check-in and given a delicious Mojito and carrot cake, we instantly felt at home.

The beds were to die for, as were the pillows you are able to personally select.
The colours of the room are bright, inviting and summery and I had the best sleep of my life in this room!

The shower is amazing - feels like you're showering under a waterfall, with a showerhead dropping water from the centre of a large rectangle space.

The facilities are also wonderful and we wish we had time to use them more. The restaurants were all fantastic - make use of the happy hour and the dinner and breakfast buffets!!

The staff will do anything to help - our waitress over dinner gave us a complimentary gelato as she wanted us to try her favourite flavour!!

Cannot wait for the day I can come back to this beautiful oasis!

For those wanting to venture out into Phuket - very far away from downtown so expect to pay a lot in taxis or pick-up for tours.

Today the 5/3/2012 my partner and I departed the renaissance resort in Mai Khao, and to be honest I have mixed feelings about this place.

It looks gorgeous, entry is spectacular, pool and surroundings are fabulous.

But looks are not everything.

My partner and I found the remote locations of the resort a bit of a downfall as there is not much to do around the resort except for travel to Turtle Village which was quite disappointing, the village was over priced and is some cases more expensive than Australia, it was a waste of time and I would not recommend you travel there for the 15 odd shops available.

The food overall at the resort was nice... But not great, considering the price we paid... We expected more. It was rather crowded and lots of children, which is fine if you like them whining and crying but we personally didn't like that.

It appears the resort has made the most of its remote location, jacking up the prices due to lack of competition in the area.
I guess it comes down to personal opinion. If you want a paradise getaway with not too much to do this is ideal.. However if you like to partake in activities  and do something with your days... Stay away.

My fiancé and I both based in Australia arranged our recent wedding at the Renaissance Resort in Phuket. It was the perfect middle ground with our family and friends based in Australia and Europe.
We viewed the property one year prior and dealt with Toei from the Sales Team who was extremely helpful and detailed during our contracting stage.
From this point on our Event Manager was Kate - extremely professional and very helpful with our endless requests!
Arriving to the property 6 days prior to the wedding we were extremely impressed, the property was even more beautiful than we remembered, it had become far more established since opening the year prior.
We really couldn't fault anything!
The friendly welcoming service was certainly evident on arrival and continued throughout, the staff are genuinely happy to assist with any request you may have (all of our guests agreed).
Upon arrival we were taken to our beautiful pool villa for private check-in. A pool villa is a must for the wedding couple and your families.
4 days prior to the event we met with Kate our Event Manager, and Jason Neull the Hotel's General Manager. They covered absolutely everything so we were able to spend the days leading up to our wedding relaxing with our guests.
The day before our wedding the hotel booked a glorious two hour couples treatment for my fiancé and I, an absolutely stunning spa with all the best treatments.
57 people attended our wedding, the ceremony was held in the afternoon on the grass area by the beach. The area was set with a white canopy, Thai and Singapore orchids lining the isle, very elegant. Our photos were taken on site around the Hotels architectural designed buildings and down on the very beautiful and private Mai Khao beach. The reception was held in Takieng restaurant (normally the Thai restaurant), this space worked extremely well with the bar and buffet set-up out doors.

Most of the above was included in the wedding package, we did find our own hair dresser Kate www.kateshairstudiophuket.com Kate and her team were great, I arranged a hair trial prior to arrival and manicure and pedicures at the hotel for me and my bridal party pre-wedding.

Around the resort - every food outlet was wonderful, most meals were taken in the Sand Box and Takieng! Outside of the resort most of our group discovered the local Thai restaurant just ten minutes walk to the left of the property (when looking at the ocean). The entire group not only made good use of the resorts 'Quan Spa' but also went for a daily local massage on the beach only 400thb!

We would highly recommend the Hotel, Management including the General Manager Jason Neull were alway present, The Hotel is extremely well run and is a credit to Jason and his team.

We stayed at this resort over a recent weekend and generally liked it. The resort was modern and stylish, but not really Thai at all...because it was modern, it seems that comfort was sacrificed for edginess. Having said that, it is an attractive resort and we enjoyed spending a weekend there, but for a longer trip I'd probably choose something else. The service was also disappointing--when you're paying these prices, it's not enough to just have staff around you smiling and being friendly--we actually expect decent service and found this hotel to be wanting in that regard. The food was all right, but again in Thailand with all of the other great options you'd expect a bit more at this price point. The pool was beautiful and the beach was well-maintained. Proximity to the airport is also a plus, but with that you sacrifice convenience to other parts of Phuket and if you're interested in getting around the island you have to be prepared to travel. All in all, good (even if a bit pricey) for a weekend getaway, but we'll probably give it a miss next time...

Euro boutique style. Bit IKEA like in terms of clean sleek bathroom and room. Would have preferred more flavour of Thailand - the JW about 400 metres up the beach has these.

Still a very nice relaxing place to stay

Beer is expensive when compared to beachside booths.

Beach deserted but not ideal for swimming
