This lodge is finished to a high specification and wonderfully decorated. It is very well equipped and the owners even provide the appropriate detergents etc for the washing machine and dishwasher. It was spotlessly clean and the shower has helped us to determine what we would like in our refurbished bathroom.
We were contacted on our journey up to be told that we could have earlier access to the property if we wished. We gave an estimated time of arrival which slipped due to the wonderful traffic jams I come to expect when travelling north. We were then contacted again just as we were approaching (good timing) and guided in. We were then met in the car park and handed the keys and then taken through to the lodge. There was a complimentary bottle of wine for us and some mints. The bike system was explained to us but we only found 2 of the 3 shelters and neither had a bike small enough for our 6 year old to ride safely so we couldn't make use of this facility (not the fault of the lodge I must stress).
The marina is a lovely location and whilst very busy we didn't get disturbed by any of the other people on site. One lovely advantage of the lodge is that you don't hear thumping from neighbouring properties like you do in caravans on certain holiday camps which was a potential concern of mine. The marina appears to have a large resident population, some of whom were kind enough to point out to our daughter a family of ducklings. We also found a couple of friendly cats on our walk around.
We visited the shops at the Boardwalk - lovely but very high end. There was a barge selling lovely gifts at reasonable prices. The cafe/tea shop was lovely and we had a nice lunch there. There is also a pub but we didn't use that so can't comment on the food or prices there. We found some maps of walks around the marina area which also included activities for children to do. We did the shortest one and our daughter was delighted to discover a play area on the route.
All in all it was a lovely break in a beautiful lodge (something we desperately needed to get away from constant dust and mayhem whilst living in a house being renovated) and we will certainly come back in the future, especially as it isn't too far from Crich Tramway Museum which we loved.
