Let me start by saying that we stayed in their sister property last year and we loved it, therefore we decided to come back again this year with our children. Since we were traveling with a teenager we were unable to stay at kahari (an adult only hotel) and booked what we thought was the next best thing which was the cottages also in stocking island.
I should’ve realized Peace and Plenty was sneaky when they first charged us a deposit for the first night months before our stay, and the final balance 2 weeks before our trip even started Al though we had selected the pay at hotel option through the travel website when we booked our reservation. The hotel blamed it on the travel website and even though I had never experienced anything similar, I accepted it and believed them.
Once we arrived at the hotel we were given a voucher at check in for free drinks from their pool bar that in 5 days was never open because they couldn’t find an available bartender.
Even though we arrived earlier than the check in time they assured us our room would be available in about 30 minutes. After waiting for 3 hours just about an hour before their standard check- in time we were finally able to get our cottage. I was a bit aggravated that they did not have it ready as they said but we understand earlier check- ins aren’t always available and we were grateful for any convenience they offered.
It was to our horror when they finally walked us through the cottage that we realized our cottage had no ac in the living room area or the dining room, or kitchen or the bathrooms. Considering it was about 100 degrees in the Bahamas that day, and the cottages are made completely out of wood and have no insulation, it felt like a sauna and it was unbearable to spend any time in that cottage!
The 2 bedrooms did have a mini split but considering the conditions it was impossible to leave the door open or to try to cool the rest of the cottage without sacrificing the little ac provided in the bedrooms.
We are a family of 5 with 2 college kids and a teenager which is the reason we decided on this cottage. We had plans to use the kitchen for breakfast and quick meals as well as spend much needed bonding time with our children that were home from college. Due to the bed set up we were going to have our teenager sleep in the sofa bed, because of the extreme heat in the cottage all of this became an impossible! We couldn’t have our youngest sleep in that heat, and we could not spend any time in the living room area or have a meal in the dining room or especially turn the stove on and cook a meal in that heat!
We complained immediately, which in turn were advised that no cottage had ac in the living room area. Obviously this was not stated in their website or any hotel booking site or we would have never booked this cottage, especially for a July vacation. After standing our ground and explaining how at $400/ night even in the islands some comforts are required and expected we were told there was nothing they could do for us that night but they could offer us another significantly smaller cottage for the next day with a king size bed. This would provide us with air conditioning for everyone to sleep comfortably but at the expense of separating our family into 2 cottages. We would still have nowhere to spend time together or cook. The hotel was completely booked and it was the only option available. We took it even though we were highly disappointed.
Our youngest son ended up sleeping the first night on a mattress on the floor in our bedroom to take advantage of the ac. They compensated us the $260 resort fee for the inconvenience.
The staff and people at the restaurant and beach bar are great and so nice! You can tell everyone just wanted to help and were actually sorry we were experiencing this mess. We had a great time at the beach club! Everyone makes you feel at home! The ferry captain was also very kind and attentive to our return times each night.
I had ordered a cake for my son’s birthday before we even arrived to the island. At check in we finalized the order. I reminded them how it was a surprise and we scheduled the time it was supposed to be delivered. The morning the cake was supposed to be delivered I called the front desk to confirm the time and they guaranteed it would be no problem and everything was already taken care of. My son had gone fishing and I wanted it to arrive before he got back, so he could be surprised. At the time it was supposed to be delivered, I called again and they assured me that it was a bit delayed but it would arrive in the next 30 minutes… well, it never arrived on time. It arrived hours later, well after my son got back and we came back from our day activities. Once again we were very disappointed.
On our 3rd day we arrived back from a boat tour to find that our wifi router had been taken and no one knew were it went. We had no wifi available and it seems like it was just taken out of our cottage and given to another cottage. After an hour of complaining they provided us with a new router.
Overall we are so disappointed by our stay at peace and plenty. The grounds are beautiful. The staff is wonderful but the people in charge are really missing the beat and it feels deceiving and like they are trying to pull a fast one. They are not being honest about the state of their cottages and are hoping they can gaslight people since once you are there you are pretty much out of options.
The cottages are in awful shape, the cabinets are broken and worn with the Formica peeling off, the toilets are stained with rust, there is barely more than a trickle of cold water coming out of the 2 bedroom cottage. The shutters are falling apart as is the outdoor furniture. It’s a shame that they are falsely advertising these units.
Unfortunately, we will never be returning.
