My husband and I booked our 10th anniversary meal at the restaurant at Hotel Le Fontanelle. We both ordered the Fish tasting menu, and were able to substitute the Filleto di Manzo for the fish main. The food was exceptional, matched with wonderful wines, mainly from the hotel's vineyard.
The evening was spoiled by a rude waiter (Vittorio), telling us not to laugh... A very strange experience.

We held our wedding at Hotel Le Fontanelle and throughout the wedding weekend we were so happy with all the food and the service from the restaurant manager and his team. Many of our guests commented on the phenomenal quality of the food and attentiveness of the service. We had a pre-wedding dinner, wedding dinner and post wedding brunch at the hotel - all were amazing. We also had breakfast each morning (fabulous and out on the terrace with the beautiful view) and dinner on the night after the wedding weekend. The hotel also made our cake for us - a beautiful Millefeuille which went down very well with all the guests. The olive oil supplied by the hotel for our wedding favour and is present on your table each time you dine in the restaurant - this is so amazing we took many bottles home with us afterwards. The selection of wines is great and they are also top quality.

We are continually in search of Italy’s best hotels offering outstanding cuisine ~ Risroante La Colonna certainly qualifies! This being Tuscany, Hotel Le Fontanelle of course features a wonderful Restaurant, La Colonna, whose menu features both a la carte items, as well as a five-course wine tasting menu—both of which may be enjoyed inside in an elegant atmosphere or outside on the scenic Belvedere Terrace with its breathtaking views of the surrounding hills of Chianti. Presiding over the kitchen is the remarkable executive chef, Tuscan native Daniele Canella, who uses only the freshest seasonal produce, astutely combined to bring out the full flavorful expression of each ingredient—the result is nothing short of a magical balance that is never excessive.

I feel compelled to write this review on account of the terrible dinner that I had recently in Le Fontanelle's principal restaurant. The beautiful setting, the impeccable service and the friendly staff were let down by VERY ordinary food. We both had the tasting menu, which for the price of 120 euros one would expect some quite special food, especially from a well known five star hotel. It was I have to say a great disappointment. The various amuse bouches were ok - a cod broth, fig sorbet and something else good - but the actual food on the menu was bad. The cheesecake/omelette starter looked disgusting, was bland and was served with some very ordinary vegetables. The potato ravioli was equally disappointing, and the risotto was undercooked. The pan fried foie gras it came with was minuscule and thus it couldn't lend more flavour to the dish. The tagliata - bistecca all fiorentina - was fine, although 3 slices of not particularly flavoursome meat was underwhelming. The pudding was a saving grace, as one could choose from the entire menu. The wines accompanied each course and are from the hotel's Sole di Sesta vineyard. They too were sadly quite average. I can't speak for the a la carte menu, but I would advise anyone against ordering the degustazione. Such a shame as I was looking forward to a real epicurean feast near to the villa that I was renting. The hotel itself seemed great, but such average food really is inexcusable for that price.
