La Mauricie is a National Park located about 15 KM’s off Highway 155 near Shawinigan, We stopped here on a road trip to Chibugama on Labour Day weekend in 2017. We were very impressed with the displays and historical background at the Visitor Centre and we learned a lot about the trees, wildlife, and early explorer interaction with our First Nation People without whose help we would not have the Country we have today. The Centre includes a multi-media display which adds to the experience. A drive thru the park is about 64 KM’s and provides spectacular views of the Maurice River and Lakes such as Lac Wapizagonke plus lots of opportunities for outdoor activities such as camping, swimming, picnic’s, canoe rentals, hiking thru the forest, and wildlife sightings. The road is good but the speed limits are 50 KM in many places. This park will be appreciated by those interested in nature, geology, outdoor activities and by those interested in scenic drives and fall colors. It will be less appreciated by those who like to drive fast. We enjoyed it and will probably return next time we pass Shawinigan.

We passed through the park on our way from Quebec City to Montreal. It was lovely and not too crowded, but it didn't stand out to me compared to other national parks since the landscape was so similar to how it is back home to me in New England. So if you like lakes and trees this is a nice park to visit.

Breathtaking!!!!!! Worth the drive there. The view is amazing and the hike is amusing. The falls were great as well, bring a bathing suit to tan beside the falls. There's a huge lake with a magnificent view where you can canoe or kayak. 100% would recommend if you're in the area.

Compared to other national parks I've been to, you have to put in some effort to reach the Red Chairs at La Mauricie National Park. I thought it would be easy to get to the one at Vide Bouteille, but I think it is actually nearer to the lake and it was not at the lookout point. As my goal was to reach a red chair at each national park, I found out that I had to go to the Saint Jean des Piles side and hike on one of two moderate/difficult trials to reach them.

I went to the chairs along the Lac Solitaire trail (about a 2-3 hour hike round trip). Well worth it for a picture of the red chairs though!

This national park is very beautiful! There is so many trails to choose from to go hiking. Each one is a great adventure, whether you are young or advanced in hiking. Stop by the main entrance of Mauricie national park to get details on hiking and maps.

As you walk along certain trails you'll find look out points which are breathtaking.
Before some trails you'll find a bathroom (outhouse). As the trails vary in length, make sure you pack some food, drinks, and you have your camera ready!
The national park has calendar of events, so check there website for more details before heading out. We had an great time and felt the park is really well maintained.
