La Mauricie is a National Park located about 15 KM’s off Highway 155 near Shawinigan, We stopped here on a road trip to Chibugama on Labour Day weekend in 2017. We were very impressed with the displays and historical background at the Visitor Centre and we learned a lot about the trees, wildlife, and early explorer interaction with our First Nation People without whose help we would not have the Country we have today. The Centre includes a multi-media display which adds to the experience. A drive thru the park is about 64 KM’s and provides spectacular views of the Maurice River and Lakes such as Lac Wapizagonke plus lots of opportunities for outdoor activities such as camping, swimming, picnic’s, canoe rentals, hiking thru the forest, and wildlife sightings. The road is good but the speed limits are 50 KM in many places. This park will be appreciated by those interested in nature, geology, outdoor activities and by those interested in scenic drives and fall colors. It will be less appreciated by those who like to drive fast. We enjoyed it and will probably return next time we pass Shawinigan.
