Most dive shops will hire just about anyone with a divemaster certificate, but Oh La La is that rare gem that truly hires people who love diving. A big part of the safety of diving is simply feeling secure in the water. Your mask fills with water? Don't panic! And the staff at Oh La La just never had anything but constructive criticism presented in the most professional manor possible. Both of the dive leaders I dealt with were just incredible especially a young Syrian woman to lovely to believe. They have an infectious love of their sport offering discounts to divers for rooms. The hostel proudly lacks wifi & they're right. My last night instead of being ensconced in an ipad I met a French and Italian tourist who decided to go midnight swimming to see florescent plankton. The local restaurant is a magnet for more chilled beach dwellers looking for glossy ibiza house music and downtempo dub trips. It was perfect in other words. The food is also quite good although more expensive than the equally excellent Malay food available beach side. Also the guest house provided the great mystery of who and when my sheets were steathly replaced everyday. I swear I never saw anyone anywhere carrying or washing sheets... yet each day they were clean. So beware the ninjas... they will wash your sheets and the diving and snorkeling will take your breath away. Note: Oh La La is Seasonal and closed during Monsoon season (surf is up during monsoon season though) also the current building is much nicer than the old photo from trip advisor.

The staff is outstanding, very nice, comforting and providing a great service for diving.
The rooms are very basic, even the solo rooms do not provide any luxury. No air con, but fans. But the diving equipment is good and well taken care of, I always felt safe. They offer all sorts of dives (fun, night, courses). Just speak to them, they help you in all possible ways.
Directly on the beach, sometimes there's a fire show on the evening. Loud music!
The bar is nice, though not fancy. Great Pizza!

Oh Lala's is an amazing place to relax after a day snorkelling or kayaking. It has a great atmosphere to have some drinks and make friends. The staff are friendly and if your all about the monkey juice its a nice place to drink. But the food here is unbelievable. Lots of people have mentioned the Pizza's which are good but the burgers are even better. They do a buffalo burger and a Mexican chicken burger both served with wedges/chips. They work out about £3.50 which if your from London is cheap. I stayed for a week and we at at Oh Lala's basically every night it was that great, in fact its the main reason I want to visit the Perhentian Islands again!

There's some great things about the hostel- the restaurant (not cheap though), I met some great people here, and the bed itself is comfy. It's also right on the beach.

However- I paid almost $20 CAD for a hostel with no indoor plumbing, cold showers, no toilet paper, the beds didn't come with a mosquito net, they also did not have a top sheet/ blanket for the bed, or a towel to rent for your stay. So I had to use my beach towel for a blanket (bring your own I guess). The staff I found were not overly friendly or accommodating. There was no wifi. No hot water for tea available all day. No lockers. Our door also didn't shut properly so we had to use a candy wrapper to wedge between the door so you can change in private. No breakfast included. The hostel was missing many essential things that you would expect them to have for the price you're paying ($20 per night!!!)

Also if you wanted to sleep you couldn't because there was techno beats all night. But the whole island is like that on the Long Beach side.

If you are longing for really good pizzas you have to try the pizzas at Oh Lala, they are so tasty. I have tried all of them, they are so thin and crispy. The tuna pasta is also one of my favourites and if you ask them to make it a little bit spicy it's even better!
