I went trough all the reviews before booking this hotel and and the end what defined us going was the view and location on the gulf of nicoya. I strongly recommend bring a 4x4 car but not because the road to the hotel, but because all the roads in general are muddy and many are not paved, being my 2nd visit in Costa rica, i find people is kind and willing to help you with your doubts or general questions, so people at reception was kind and polite, some more than others, but in general people already commented on those topics, let me tell my story and why i think this place along with its great potential is ok but not quite there yet.

So, flight arrived during nighttime to San Jose, and i sent a couple of questions in advance to the hotel just to confirm driving route, itinerary and conditions of the road, one week in advance, received answer 2 days before my trip and after many messages asking for a reply... so far so good, message arrived on time!. So arrived 1 day late, and no one knew i would do so... seems lack of communication there, again, no big deal, guy at reception was very kind and lead us to the room, the view from the hotel is amazing, but you already read that somewhere else, where the things start to get repetitive, let me explain:, i suspect (my guess and opinion) the hotel is not used to receive tourist that are planning to stay longer than 2 or 3 days, even we saw a couple there almost every day.
Morning , breakfast is served, and every day is exactly the same, i mean it was good, but in many corporate hotels that is the norm, it should not be here if you want to be reminded as a hotel with more than a nice view!!!, let the chef or cook or whoever to show us what he/she can do!! , dinner is good and is the same people preparing it! (some days later stayed in a small hotel in san jose, which also made the same breakfast every day, plus an extra plate daily and different natural juices!! Is not that hard right? A hotel like this should treat every guest in its 20 or so rooms feel they care and love to have people there, let us feel you don’t want to be just like other corporate hotels, let us feel next time we want to return to your premises.
So after breakfast, we went to do our activities and return around 3.00 to 5.00 pm , time for pool and drinks right? Well wrong, bar and kitchen are closed until 5.00 , sometimes later, second day i was going to a convenience store to buy snacks and water, which you need to eat in your room, because there is a “no picnic” sign at the pool, no way mr manager , maybe sign should read “no picnic when kitchen is open only” right?
By the way, happy hour is 5 to 6 or at least that what the sign at the kitchen reads.
So we were there with a wonderful view, coming from the beach, snacking in our room, dinner was good, no complains there as I explained before.
Then one night i left the ceiling fan turned on, because we stayed up late on the balcony, next morning our room had no power on the lights, sockets ok, camera charged and phones were also fully charged... what happened? I notified reception, and went out to adventure... and to supermarket for more snacks... late that afternoon, one guy which i started to suspect to be the owner or manager, told me he cutoff the electricity of my room, because the ceiling fan in the balcony was on and was making funny noises, and there was no one to repair it due Holliday, he strongly recommend to not turn it on, no choices! He mention repair would be done after Holliday passed , i left and the fan still made the same noises, no big deal, but imagine what happened if that guy cuts the power on any room on the middle of the night and your cameras, phones, gps or whenever stops charging? Would not be a better idea notify the guest what is about to happen? I felt punished because mi fan made funny noises which were never fixed... again a communication problem.

Anyways i could keep going and going with this feeling that even you are welcome, has to be by the manager rules, later i understand one review i remember mentioned “forget the manager, go with the people that runs the place”

Conclusion, this hotel has great potential to become a good contender in boutique- vacation hotels in costa rica, but needs to learn from other boutique hotels around the world we have visited, step up for Costa Rica!.

What a fabulous hotel in the middle of a jungle. Anna, Dennis, Elliot, Juan and the rest of the staff made our stay so magical. The food was delicious, the pool and its views - spectacular, the monkeys, iguanas and turtles - make this area worth a visit.
This hotel is not the easiest to find...but that adds to its mystique.

Room tip: Opt for the rooms closest to the trees to watch the monkeys

Vista Las Islas is a hidden Gem in the middle of the pure unadulterated jungle of the Nicoya Peninsula. It takes a bit to get there, but worth every moment. The ferry ride is stunning as well. You will need a 4wd, but it's not as intimidating as it sounds.

I sincerely wish we would have planned to stayed more than one night. Clean, beautifully appointed with gracious hosts and staff. Ana and Juan were absolutely marvelous. Nice restaurant and views that camera's cannot do justice to. Howler monkeys, millions of birds are waiting for you to capture their image as best as you can while relaxing in the infinite pool.

It's not a party place, couples will love it best. There are excursions for night kayaking luminescence, several pristine beaches not to mention the islitas with their own flavor of paradise. Thank you Thank you! We will be back. :)

Room tip: Not a bad view anywhere. We had the basic double and it was perfect. Private balcony overlooking the lush jungle and Nicoya Bay.

We stayed at Isla Vista hotel for 4 nights with another couple. This was the 1st stage of 3 in our first visit to Costa Rica (followed by 4 days in Drake’s Bay and 4 days in Manuel Antonio). It is remote, about 20 minutes’ drive from the airport over rough roads, and sits on a hillside less then 1/2 mile from the beach. The restaurant, open air with 180 degree views of ocean and first, was quite good and reasonably priced. The pool profiles the same great views and is a nice place to just relax. One can walk to the beach, down a rough road with a steep return trip up the 200 yard long driveway. There is a very rustic bar/bistro (not relayed to the hotel) at the beach which reportedly serves great cerviche. Our beach walked was rewarded by a rare sight: a solitary Olive Ridley sea turtle digging a nest in the sand to lay her eggs. Remarkable. Other than walking on the beach, local hiking is really not an option. All other activities outside the hotel require a taxi ride.

Our room was nice, with great views of the jungle/forest and the ocean. Expect bugs, mosquitos, geckos and the occasional iguana, they are part of the deal. Our concerns about a leaking toilet and bad TV cable connection ( it is hard breaking addiction to “breaking news”) were promptly addressed. Our hostess Anya was extremely helping plan our trip as well as seeing that our stay was enjoyable. Her graciousness set a high standard for the staff, which they met in all aspects. Dennis at the reception desk was very helpful in getting us settled and coordinating taxi rides to different adventure sites; Elliot and Juan were attentive bartenders and waiters, and Juan also worked as a tour guide. The cleaning staff did a very nice job keeping the rooms and common areas clean and fresh.
We met couples who had been returned there several times. We would highly recommend this location to anyone who wants a remote, quiet visit.

We are not staying at the hotel but visited the restaurant for lunch. It is open from 12 to 2. I had called ahead but unless you are a large group, I don't think you have to. The drive is incredibly steep so you need a 4 x 4. There are large gates at the top. After no one answered the button, I called the main number and someone opened the gates.
The view from the restaurant is incredible. It is one of the best views at a restaurant I have seen.
You are so high and look way out over the bay to Tortuga Island. There was a lovely breeze.
The menu was small. We had the special, which was red snapper with yucca chips and a salad. The fish was served whole and was so delicious. Pan fried with spices to a crispy awesomeness. I had the homemade leminade and my husband had the homemade iced tea. Both were incredible. Very large glasses and on the tart side so very refreshing. Cost was 55 US which included tax and built in tip.
This is a special spot.
