It is a lovely hotel - staff friendly and welcoming, clean, good breakfast, picturesque setting (near bike trail, little riverside park, short walk to train station) - and though it is a bit outside of the taidong city centre, it offers a much better and relaxing place to stay.
Short taxi ride will land you in the heart of the city, at the museum of prehistory, of to any of the other highlights of taidong.
However, as is problematic in many hotels in Taiwan, Chinese tour groups use this hotel. Mornings are absurd - they yell, some try to smoke in the hall, they push at breakfast and basically ruin the morning. Staff try to be kind to both them and other tourists, and you can tell they are annoyed too, but to be woken up (again!) at 530am by a loud group of Chinese tourists trying to figure out where the elevator is and yelling down the hall....is not a "vacation" moment to be sought after.
It's a hotel worthy of your stay and your time - just make sure you call and ask to be put on a floor WITHOUT chinese tour groups booked on it. If enough people make these requests, then they can maybe be sequestered to their own smokey and pushy floor and the rest of us can enjoy a stay.
