Right now, this is probably the best trail that is available to the public. There's good variation in scenery along the way, and the trail is not too steep. In some sections you can safely walk to the river's edge, which is something you're unable to do on other trails.

The sausages are absolutely delicious. I can only second everyone else's recommendations about them. A perfect mix of spice and flavours.

If you only had time to do one trail in Taroko, this would be my first choice. Given it is about 4km in length it could easily take up most of one day depending upon your walking pace.

有機會在台灣砂卡礑步道一遊,比較時常在加拿大Banff National Park的 trials, 又確實別有一番風味,天氣很好,步行道很清潔,沒有冰天雪地,卻又山清、水秀,很舒服。 It is highly recommend to those who loves to roam on various trials...

It's easy to come here with bus line to Taroko Natiional Park. The trail is quite long to walk fully. You may feel tired. But if you love hiking, it is interesting. The scenery is beautiful and relaxing. During the walking road, there are temporary stops for you to take some rest and enjoy the nature. They also have introduction information of nature, plants and animals at Shakadang Trail. There are some fast food shops at the middle of the road for you to enjoy. There are also some souvenir shops which have special gifts by stones of Taroko mountain. The Taiwanese keeps the natural environment so clean. You are not allowed to touch the stream flowing side by side with the walking road.

Note: No toilet, No rubbish. Remember to wear good shoes for hiking.

If you’re a foodie, sights will be secondary but the 50 min hike into the trail for the MAKAO sausage will be your highlight.
I didn’t know anything about this trail or even that there’s so sausage inside. Only when we walked all the way in and saw locals lining up for the sausages, we knew we had to have it. The best sausage I’ve ever eaten, really!
And they give you a young fern leaf as a salad with the sausage. It’s harvested from high in the mountain. Gorgeous.
Ok, now for the trail... generally flat, kids can do it too, no prams though, it’s rocky and uneven. Just walk. It’s nice. Beware of possible falling rocks. Generally safe.

Thank mingzy
