Been spending much time this year visiting beautiful Lough Gowna (Co. Longford - awesome fishing!) which entailed driving via Multyfarnham (the beautifully restored abbey should not be missed) so we decided one day to drop into Weirs for brunch. The friendly Italian waitress recommended the chicken wings & fried potato skins with bacon bits - what a taste experience. Now we're hooked, we can't drive through Multyfarnham without stopping @ Weirs to indulge ourselves in this sinful treat. We'd recommend it to everyone - unless you're a wannabe stick insect.

We recently stayed in Morington House where Warwick recommended we eat in Weirs. Fantastic food served by lovely girl in a very pleasant setting. Well worth a visit. Really enjoyed our evening.

Weir's of Multyfarnham truly is a hidden gem in a wonderful Irish village, whilst at the same time only a few minutes from a main road to Dublin. Weir's has managed to keep every inch of old Irish charm, and has a cosy, traditional feel inside. If you're looking for a reliable, wholesome meal that is off the beaten track - this is the place to go.

On this visit, I had their 'Tempura of Killybegs Cod' -Crispy battered cod, served with Mixed Salad and homecut Maris Piper Chips. Hand on heart, this is the best battered cod that I have had to date - that's a big statement for a man who likes his cod! They were also very generous with the portion size, which really adds to their 'solid rural Ireland establishment' feel.

I liked the various different photographs of the owners of the establishment that are on the walls, its nice to see who is running the place that you're eating in. It was even better when one of the owners came to ask us how our meal was - a courtesy that you would be very unlikely to receive in many urban areas in Ireland!

It won't take the full length of your meal to realise why Weir's, and Multyfarnham in general, is such a special place. It helps if its a rainy day too (so you get the full Irish experience), but that's just personal taste!

We found Weirs on the recommendation of our bed and breakfast owner while in Westmeath. We liked it so much we returned three nights in a row. The food was great, service excellent, and a warm atmosphere. Just the kind of place you hope to find on travels.
