If visiting the Anhinga Trail this is a good place to visit on a hot day. Gumbo Limbo is a shaded trail and cooler than the open Anhinga Trail. The observant walkerr can spot the linguus snails that are often seen in the area.

Gumbo Limbo trail is a nice, short walk through the forest but nothing spectacular. If you are there to visit Anhinga Trail (definitely worth a visit) you should take the Gumbo Limbo trail too since they are right next to one another. Bring bug spray!

This is a short trail that takes you through an interior hammock. Nice dense forest and plaques along the way to read about this unique vegetation. There can be mosquitos so come prepared. The trail is paved and it is about .4 miles. Worth visiting.

This trail is conveniently located at Royal Palm Visitor Centre, so there is plenty of parking as well as restrooms and water fountains. It's an easy, flat paved trail of 0.4 mi/600 m. We visited around 10:30am on a Monday in March, and it was completely empty - we were the only people on the trail.

At first, we walked slowly to enjoy the beautiful jungle-like surrounding and the hammock of gumbo limbo trees. About half way through, we started to feel itchy and realized that we were being eaten alive by the mosquitoes. Although we had applied insert repellent generously and carefully, it was no match for these blood-thirsty creatures (which are apparently active during the day). We quickened the pace and finished the trail as quickly as possible. In summary, we spent 15-20 min on the trail and received about 50+ mosquito bites each. If you must visit, wear light coloured and loose clothing, preferably with a mosquito mesh.

We enjoyed this trail, it was an easy walk for anyone to enjoy. We were insect repellant, but still received many bites. Make sure you are very thorough!
