Hubby & I rode the Motorcycle to Polebridge then continued on the dirt road back into Glacier NP & up to Bowman Lake. The road to the lake is very narrow..almost one vehicle wide so have to keep your eyes open on blind turns....but very pretty. Once we reached the lake we were in awe at just how beautiful & peaceful this lake is. There were people camping & some were playing in the water...fishing ...or out in their kayaks or small boats. Sat and took in the views for sometime ❤️

When Glacier National Park feels crowed or busy, I recommend visiting Bowman Lake.

There is a long dirt road to get there that is absolutely worth it for the quiet-seeker. There it was so quiet with the stillest water in the park. A few hikers walked through and a few campers, but all seemed aware and respectful of the feeling of the place.

Either camp here and go kayak or day hike through the four or five trails, or just a few hours. I highly recommend visiting here on your trip to Glacier.

This is worth every extra minute it took to drive on the potholed dirt road. If you go slow and take your time on the 6 miles you'll get the reward of one of the best lakes in the park. We were hesitant to go because of all the reviews that said beware but I was driving a Chevy Sonic and just took my time and had NO issues (granted the drive took up 30-45 minutes to go 6 miles). Great Lake! So pretty! And we went swimming burrrrrr. It was awesome.

We were told that the road to Bowman was closed due to the parking lot being full. We decided to go for it anyway and at least drive through to see the lake since we'd come so far. The gravel road was very narrow and quite lumpy, but we had 4-wheel drive. When we got up there, we found parking available without any trouble. We swam and enjoyed the scenery and even had a buck walk right through the beach near us. This was the only time we needed bug spray in our trip to Glacier--for biting flies. Not major, but a nuisance & worth spray. This was a quieter destination than most, and we appreciated the relative solitude.

The parking lot is tiny and they were turning cars away all day. We happened to get a spot. The road was 6 miles of horrible potholes. We probably wouldn't have gone had we known how bad the road was. Once there though, going out on the lake with the kayaks was amazing.
