“Great shaded trail, might be a little rough on your feet”

Mary's Rock Summit Trail
Reviewed 1 September 2017 via mobile

This trail is moderate to strenous and straight up.  The trail itself is very nice and shaded.  There are some nice views along the way and the summit is cool look out. It is a rocky trail so your feet might hurt some.

The hike is quite challenging as the terrain is rough and extremely steep. It is straight up and straight back down. It is not necessarily a pretty Trail to hike however the view from the top is outstanding. We packed a lunch and ate at the top.

We took the Meadow Spring trail to the AT, then to the summit trail, which is apparently the shortest route. It was a good hike. We did run into a Black bear on this trail, as our intention was to go up for the sunset and our experiences in Shenandoah, we found more bear viewing in the evening hours. This particular trail was not crowded.

We hiked this trail on the 4th of July with our two dogs - an 85 lb GoldenDoodle and a 35 lb labradoodle. The terrain on the trail and the climb up was challenging but definitely doable. We made it to the top in less than an hour.

And the views from the summit of Mary's Rock were well worth the effort - simply breathtaking. Pictures don't do it justice.

The terrain on this hike was varied: lots of switchbacks, rocks, and tree roots to pay attention to. The views were well worth it. It seemed every time we turned a corner, we had something lovely to see. The view at the top was breathtaking. So glad that we had a clear day to take it all in.
