Lots of variety and choice for a locally run restaurant. A little on the expensive side of Nica food, but good quality and decent portions. Try the lentils! Take insect repellent or ask for limes to ward off mosquitoes at this time of year, theyre right by the water.

We stopped for lunch while bike riding from Balgue. The atmosphere was great, and the people very nice. The meals were of a good size and the grilled lake fish was excellent. The deep fried sides (fritters?) were too heavy for us, maybe because we are not used to the heavy oils.

These kids have nothing better to do than to light off fireworks all evening which is super loud and annoying when you are trying to eat or just relax.

We stayed in a place near by and two night were very bad and we couldnt sleep for a while until they finally went to bed.
They also have dogs that bark all night long for no reason, twice i had to go out and shooo them away.

Maybe if these parents did not buy these kids fireworks then the place would be better.

Choose a better place to hangout that i more quiet

The fried fish was decent and tasted good, but i would not go back on the fact that the parents need to get things under control

Our group was large so we checked several places and were happy we didn't stay here - other places nearby were much quieter. We tried the fish which was highly recommended - it was frozen and expensive. Other diners had the filete but it was sea bass not from the lake so not fresh. Service was okay - bathrooms and area not clean so not sure about kitchen and rooms. Either way the owners/workers didn't seem to care about all the noise from the continual firecrackers....it was not a holiday - we asked. It continued every night as we passed by the kids were on the road and beach area in front - it was dangerous, really loud, smoky and a crazy environment for a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - it definitely ruined the ambiance! We talked to other travelers in the different places at the top of hill in Santa Cruz where there are lots of tranquil options - they also chose somewhere quiet to enjoy their meals and sleep peacefully. They also have lots of garbage in front on the beach....so do the neighboring places...it seems common to just throw garbage to the property next door.
The little shop next to the comedor sold the kids the bottle rockets ....they charged us twice as much as the shop at the top of the hill which has a lot more variety.

After a rough stay at El Zopilote and our friend at Little Morgans - we were all seeking somewhere with more creature comforts. los Cocos is a very different experience - with showers attached to your room and non-wooden facilities.
We were unfortunate enough to be on Ometepe during Storm Nate, which meant our first floor room flooded. The power went out and we spent a whole day trapped here. We basically didn't leave the hotel (there was a group of 8 of us in the end) and all of us had all three meals there which meant we had most stuff on the menu by the time we left. The food is highly recommended, the grilled fish and any of their dishes with fries particularly so. The owner pulled his generator out so we still had a bit of light at night time and he had no problems making calls with his mobile to see what was going on with ferrys etc. as well as for calling us taxis. I would recommend initially for food but $10 a night to stay is also a fair rate for the area.
