Homewood: this NZ vacation paradise, nestled on a mountainside overlooking a scenic expanse of Pelorus Sound (at the northern tip of the South Island) is a sensory delight: the interior of the house is a masterful construction of red and silver beech, western cedar, and Douglas fir; the furnishings are impeccable, the meals exquisite, the hospitality superb. This is not one of the best B&B's in the world; it is THE best. The owners, Nori and Dallas Hemphill, are joyful, knowledgeable, and kind. My wife and I have travelled throughout the world and our experiences at Homewood have fast become our favorite.
Our favorite memories include harvesting green-lipped mussels, star-gazing, hiking to the nearby Karaka Island and Mary's Bay, viewing a 1000 year old Kahikatea tree, and learning about Ouokaha Island, famous in Maori lore as a prison site established by Te Rauparaha.
The bedrooms are spacious, nicely appointed, and quiet. In fact, if serenity, calm and quiet are your cuppa, this is the perfect place for reading, contemplating, writing, painting or just being. Every ten paces is a Kodak moment or a memory to be cherished.More
