Homewood Bay Lodge

Homewood is beyond words. Our hosts, Nori and Dallas, made every moment perfect. The second we stepped off the boat we knew this place was magical. Set high on a hill, the views of the Pelorus Sounds are stunning. Inside Homewood no detail has been missed. Every room is luxuriously appointed and incredibly comfortable.

The area surrounding the home is filled with amazing hikes, boating, and more amazing views. It's the most peaceful, serene place I've ever been.

Nori is an amazing cook who went over the top with every meal. She cooked customary New Zealand dishes using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. At dinner she thoughtfully paired each course with amazing New Zealand wines.

Sunsets and evenings are spectacular too-- Homewood is the perfect place to spend an evening stargazing, especially with one of Nori's signature cocktails in hand.

This place is spectacular. Truly better than any experience you can imagine.

What a place to visit. The experience of boating 45 minutes to this Lodge with all the beautiful scenery was outstanding. Peaceful and a lot of history.
Choices of activities a plenty including kayaking, fishing, hiking ( 1100acres of land ) through forests, boat trips, brilliant scenery or you can relax in the lodge and just enjoy the peace and views. Slept so well as no noise at night. Food etc beautiful. Fully solar powered and fresh spring water so you can live in the lap of luxury with all the city amenities but in a superb location. IF you are a hunter there are pigs and deer if you prefer to catch your own dinner.

We rate Homewood Bay Lodge as one of the best places in the world. Its where you can do as much or as little as you feel. We wanted a special weekend away and that's exactly what we got. All arrangements were taken care of to make our trip effortless. The attention to detail at Homewood is outstanding - its those little things that make all the difference for us. The meals were exceptional, each and every course on each and every day! Not to mention our drinks of choice being available in the open bar. The house is impeccable. The walks and scenery were breathtaking. Thank you again Nori & Dallas I don't think we've ever been looked after so well.

Homewood: this NZ vacation paradise, nestled on a mountainside overlooking a scenic expanse of Pelorus Sound (at the northern tip of the South Island) is a sensory delight: the interior of the house is a masterful construction of red and silver beech, western cedar, and Douglas fir; the furnishings are impeccable, the meals exquisite, the hospitality superb. This is not one of the best B&B's in the world; it is THE best. The owners, Nori and Dallas Hemphill, are joyful, knowledgeable, and kind. My wife and I have travelled throughout the world and our experiences at Homewood have fast become our favorite.

Our favorite memories include harvesting green-lipped mussels, star-gazing, hiking to the nearby Karaka Island and Mary's Bay, viewing a 1000 year old Kahikatea tree, and learning about Ouokaha Island, famous in Maori lore as a prison site established by Te Rauparaha.

The bedrooms are spacious, nicely appointed, and quiet. In fact, if serenity, calm and quiet are your cuppa, this is the perfect place for reading, contemplating, writing, painting or just being. Every ten paces is a Kodak moment or a memory to be cherished.

Room Tip: Every room has a great view of the bay.

My wife and I spent 5 amazing days at Homewood Bay Lodge. As we set off that fifth day, watching the red roofed Homewood recede in the distance and waving to Dallas and Nori (the lovely owners), we started making plans for how we could get back. This was a perfect get away for two people who really needed a get away - a relaxing, visually stunning, spiritually renewing adventure. From the moment we arrived and looked out of our bedroom window at the dramatic and relatively undiscovered Pelorus Sound, we felt relaxed and right at home. Nori and Dallas were such wonderful hosts, such wonderful and generous people - we were well taken care of and enjoyed getting to know this kind and generous couple. We ate well (green lip muscles!), drank well, and slept well. My wife and I enjoyed an amazing sunset hike, caught fish from the dock, and took a guided hike to homewood peak where we took in the 360 view. New Zealand is an amazing country, and Homewood Bay is an amazing place. We'll be back!
