Stayed at Renaissance Aruba April 2011 with another family.

Rooms:
Spacious, comfortable bed, comes with in room safe and bar/sink microwave
Tip: ask for ocean view to see the cruise ships coming in.

Location:
We liked the location- in walking distance to downtown, beside the marina with a starbucks, casino, theatre and numerous restaurants close by.
Although this resort is away from the palm beach resorts, its and easy 20 min ($25 cab ride) to that area.

Restaurants:
Although there are only 3 options (4th option on private island) the food was 5star!!
The buffett at the marina always had fresh seafood options (crab legs, swordfish, salmon, Tilapia etc)
Drinks were great

Private Island
This is the best part! A water taxi picks you up from the main resort and takes you to their private island (15min away). Its a fun ride and the island is amazing.
There is Wifi on the island and a dedicated restaurant with great meal options (ie. Tilapia for entree and Hagen Daz ice cream for dessert anyone??)

Overall I would recommend this resort to anyone who is looking to go to Aruba with or without a family.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view- other rooms look onto the parking lot

Renaissance Aruba Resort was awesome BUT an incident had dampened our overall stay. There was a mishap/ accident that had happened right on the day of our arrival at the resort. In the escalator, upon reaching on top people who were in line were not moving, they were lining up right where the escalator was. We tumbled down, piling up on top of one another like a domino hurting ourselves I screamed for help but it took them few minutes to take action. Several guests took the initiative to help eventually, I guessed everyone was shocked.

Several procedures were not handled properly that had lead to the accident:

1. There were no porters to helped us with our luggage’s

2. Nobody informed us or any sign posted to indicate where the service elevator was as an alternate, imagine bringing your luggage in a narrow escalator

3. There was no emergency button on top of the escalator. Management informed us, it was at the bottom part only.

4. Workers did not know what to do, no proper training on how to handle on situations like that

5. No one from the reception directed the line up that caused the back log, and people could not move or were not moving hence it was so congested. At the bottom someone should have directed the guest not to go up yet .
6. Lastly boat ride going to the private island no life vest ride at your own risk.

The worst part, our group who were the one's hurt did not even receive an apology from the management. We could just have shrugged it off, but those people who helped were rewarded, they come up to us asking what we get since they were getting stuff and cash. We told them, we received nothing!!!! Until on the last day, we asked for a meeting with the Manager, questioned her why those who helped were rewarded and US the victims, who got hurt were not acknowledged. We told her we did not want to make a fuss out of the incident BUT there was a double standard on how we were treated. By the way, we are brown skin ladies.

Next time you go to Renaissance Hotel Aruba, watch your step your SAFETY is less of their worries.

Thank you.

If you don't have kids this is the BEST! The marina hotel allows you a relaxed atmosphere without the screaming & yelling of kids! The happy hour is excellent ! The staff are excellent especially Jackie who is so friendly. It is a very welcoming environment. The perfect ending to an awesome day by the endless pool! Can't beat the local !

We stayed at the Marina Hotel the first week of January and used Marriott points to pay for our room.

Positives:
-great value
-beautiful private beach with flamingos, iguanas, and spectacular sunsets (we recommend renting $5.00 beach floats)
-water taxi to private island (good photo ops)
-free wi-fi in lobby
-convenient location for shopping and restaurants
-two on-site casinos (with free drinks while gambling)
-friendly and helpful staff

Negatives:
-small balcony (standing only)
-aged bathroom (dingy tub and some mildew on grout)
-worn carpet (we prefer tile)
-small pool on Marina side (only a few chairs-which people rudely saved with towels and never used)
-drinks expensive at beach (we bought rum and juice at the supermarket behind the hotel to save money)
-mosquitoes/biting insects at the beach (BRING STRONG BUG SPRAY!!)

Stayed at Ocean Suites - a beautiful property in and of itself - loved the swim-up bar, the pools, and the lagoon/beach area - plus a private island to boat to on shuttleboat. It was like getting an excursion for free. We liked watching the cruise ships depart at night all lit up. We did not choose the all-inclusive since we were hoping to try different restaurants and found some very reasonable ones close by. Rooms are a bit dated, but very clean. We were moved when I complained about not having an ocean view as promised, and they moved us to a higher floor with a great view. Staff was very helpful. Rented a car in hotel lobby (Hertz) and drove to Arikok, the national park. Was great fun driving around the island away from the resorts. Don't be in a hurry - everything is very laid back and people go out of their way to give you info. Service everywhere was great! Also took bus one day - very easy to do - to high rise area which is very Americanized. Wasn't sure whether to be grateful or disappointed! Got to see a lot of the island from this location, but everything is really about and for you, the tourist, to enjoy yourself. Fun trip!

Room Tip: Request a high floor unless you are taking children.
