“Generally Ok but waiking up at 6am to get a spot in a shade and extremely slow service makes Hyatt not worth the $.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

For Hyatt manager who may add comments:

People are complaining daily so saying that you are working on improving service is not enough. There are plenty of improvements that can be made now so that people can enjoy their vacation with family instead of waiting for service they come to expect of hyatt.

Negative:

1. If you need/want shade be prepared to wake up at 6am.
2. WiFi in the hotel is $35 per week which is ok but it works for one device at a time. Switching between devices requires a procedure that works 50% of the time. The other 50% requires a call to third party support which is not vary friendly.
3. Anything you buy at the hotel is supermarket price * 3.
4. Service in stores or restaurants at the hotel is somewhat friendly but as slow as it gets.

Positive:

1. Great location.
2. Hotel property is gorgeous.
3. Water slide is great for kids.
4. Beach is great.

Summary:

Everything is the hotel that does not require a human touch is absolutely what you come to expect of Hyatt. Unfortunately the story with service especially at the beach makes made this vacation not with the time or the $.

I'm still at the hotel hoping to see some improvements.

I would like to thank you for taking the time post feedback regarding your recent stay at the resort. While I am pleased to see that you were generally satisfied with the experience, I did note your comments about the hut distribution system, wifi access, and slow service in the outlets and stores. The current hut distribution system allows every guest an opportunity to get shade at the beach, albeit it requires getting up early. We are working to upgrade our wifi service over the next year. I have shared your feedback about the slow service with the managers of the restaurants and stores.

We appreciate the feedback as they help us improve. We hope to have you as a guest again.

Perfect for honeymooners! It is centrally located to all of the restaurants/nightlife, very pleasant staff, beautiful views. The Marriott caters much more to children, whereas this hotel caters much more to couples. I would come back again in a heartbeat!

the actual hotel was wonderful. the rooms were spacious, the food was wonderful both in the hotel and nearby restaurants. due to some sleep challenges i once woke up at 4am... wondered down to the beach to get the chair of my choice and was shocked to discover that I was number 4 on line. this is a sad tale of just how competitive the beach chair race actually is at this place. on other mornings when i arrived at 7am I was relegated to a massive under tend area shared by aprox. 40 other late comers. the casino is a plus and nice way to kill some night time entertainment.

Room Tip: get a room with a beach view

We went to Aruba for the first time in March and stayed at the Hyatt (after much waffling over whether that or the Marriott was the better choice). I'm glad we went with the Hyatt. Much like the Hyatts in Scottsdale and Kauai, the grounds are really stunning, beginning with the open air lobby (being met with chilled towels, drinks, and pails and shovels for our sons was a great start). Our room was fine, but definitely not five star (smallish, carpet was tired, no real balcony). We were far from the elevator, which was a good thing, because any noise from the hallway traveled right into your room. But really, we didn't spend much time in the room. The pools were all great, and my kids (both under 8) really enjoyed them, plus the shuffleboard court and ordering smoothies from the swim-up bar and the juice hut. We all liked the lizards and tropical birds that live on the grounds. The beach was gorgeous--not very wide, but beautiful. We rented a palapa ahead of time for $35/day, just because I had read about the drama of trying to secure one on a daily basis, and that worked out great (on a couple of the days, I told the guys at the towel hut that we weren't going to use it at all, and the front desk took the charges off for those days at checkout). We rented paddleboards from one of the places on the beach, and also went out on a glass-bottomed boat ride with some snorkelling (Paola the concierge helped us set that up--she was so helpful and friendly, as was just about everyone we encountered). We also rented a car one day and drove around the island--I'd definitely recommend that. We wound up at Baby Beach, which is a really neat spot (but I'd suggest bringing your own snorkelling gear, if you can--they'll rent it to you there, but you get the idea hundreds of tourists have used the equipment before you). Food at the Hyatt was good (the breakfast buffett was included in our rate, which was great), and we ate lunch at the outdoor places most days. One thing the Hyatt could do to step up its game: more poolside service! I did see one or two waitresses taking drink orders, but never close enough for me to flag down. Also, we never had a problem getting pool chairs (we usually spent our mornings at the beach, and then went to the pool in the afternoons), but apparently people take the whole "putting your towel down to reserve a chair at 6 am" thing VERY seriously. If there were pool attendants dealing with towels/chairs, it seems like the system would work MUCH better. Back to food: the coffee shop was great (genuine Starbucks coffee!) and the women who worked there were unfailingly friendly. We left the grounds for dinner just about every night--there are lots of places to eat right outside the hotel on the main strip--lots of good fish to be had. At Paola's suggestion, we also went to Barefoot downtown one night for dinner on the sand--that was great. Also, the kids really enjoyed Blossoms at the Westin--Benihana-style dining with the chefs catching shrimp tails in their hats, etc. Corny but the kids were mesmerized. Other random Aruba comments: don't skimp on the sunscreen. We saw more people looking like lobsters than any other place I've been. Also, there were a remarkable number of people there from NY/NJ/PA. I guess that's where the direct flights all come from, but it just seemed strange. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Ritz Carlton opens (it's under construction now)--I think that's going to be a game-changer for Aruba tourism.

Room Tip: AWAY from the elevators (the hallways can be loud!)

We just came back from a week at the Hyatt. Kudos to the front desk manager Ms. Wolf who provided extraordinary service when we checked in. The food at the Hotel restauarants was excellent. The only negative, and it is a big negative, is the crowded beach. We reserved a cabana month ahead of our stay so it wasn't it a issue with us, but many guests had to wait in line at 6am every morning to reserve a chair. There were many cruise ship people who took Hotel chairs and appeared to pay off hotel security to look the other way.
