Review of El Barracon

El Barracon
Restaurant details

El Barracon offers some traditional dishes inspired by slaves from the early days. Try the traditional goat dish for a special treat. Everyone enjoyed their food here and the serving sizes are very big. We were extremely pleased with the service as well and definitely recommend El Barracon as a stop in Santiago. Note, the hotel is open to the street so there is no air conditioning and it can be a bit noisey.

Came here as part of a Thomas Cook trip to the city. The restaurant itself was once connected to the slave trade and its decor and dark cave like interior reflects it's past.
As usual with the package trip restaurants the food was very average and better Cuban food restaurants are easily found near by.
The service was good, the restaurant was well air conditioned and the beer nice and cold

Called here for lunch as part of an organised tour. Service great, food tasty and beer cold. Restaurant commemorates dayscof slavery with 2 figures outside and various paintings inside.

We were entertained by a partially sighted going man who stood by the open front and sang and had a beautiful and clear voice. Weather was roasting but tgere were many fans on around he restaurant to keep us cool.

Nice place to stop for a visit.

The food is good (not fantastic, just good by Cuban general "restaurant" standards), but the manager will help you choose something that suits your tastes and he will help if you have dietary issues. A pleasant place and not burdened with bands like most of the restaurants in Santiago - a real bonus. A great bar and really good prices on rum - and plenty of variety of the local special labels. I wouldn't hesitate to eat there again - and I have visited El Barracon on three separate tours in the past 12 months

Kind of dark and dingy at first glance with a sort of cave-like atmosphere. The meal was quite good and being it a gov't establishment (not always a good thing), it did not ding the wallet too much. A good value. Located on the busy Avenida Garzon, it is fairly central and hard to miss. Will not hesitate to go again.
