Book this hotel at your peril. I’ll start with a good point, the staff are very friendly but that's where it ends sadly. It's not an hotel for tourists but for local workers who just need a room for a night or two. It's 2 miles from town and costs £10 each way by taxi although one taxi driver tried to charge us £15 from town. The beach is filthy and needs a good clean. Now for the rooms, where do I start, plug sockets are hanging off the walls and very dangerous, only one light worked in the room, curtains hanging from rail and patio doors to balcony don't shut properly, never mind lock and kept shut with a piece of wood each side. Don't expect tea or coffee making facilities. Only had hot water once in two weeks, the rest of the time the water was Luke warm at best but usually cold. No toilet seat, well it was broke lying at the side of the toilet. Couple of cockroaches inhabiting a hole where the sink water should drain down the waste pipe but the water just comes back out onto the bathroom floor. The towels smelt like cigarettes. Regular power cuts, eight one night. Workers would walk round the swimming pool in their dirty boots and workwear on their way to their rooms, needless to say we did not use the pool, although it always looked dirty and full of leaves. Breakfast was sparse, toast from a contraption I burnt my hands on twice, omelette or cheese and ham sandwich, no tea but strong coffee and juice in a room where all the windows were blocked out by curtains that couldn't be opened. My first nights evening meal was pre cooked chicken and rice warmed up in the microwave and Luke warm. All in all this hotel needs knocking down and rebuilding or closing down for a few months to bring it up to standard.

We needed a place to sleep for one night in Varadero as we were going on the Trinitopes tour the next day. The hotel is not near the main Varadero resort area, nor is it on the tourist bus route so taxis will be required to get to and from the restaurant area. The room was basic. It was old. It looked like someone had made the effort to clean it. The patio door to the balcony was broken and was wedged into place with a wooden stick. Hot water was not available in the evening. AC was very loud. It's not great but if you only need a place to sleep it is ok. I wouldn't stay here for more than one night.

Hotel Oasis is a wonderful little place to experience what life is like as a Cuban. Mostly Cuban nationals were here when I was staying at this property, but they were very friendly and enjoyed meeting Canadians. Food was very good and very Cuban at the restaurant, service was excellent. Beer was cold, Espresso was hot and the bar tenders great. Front Desk staff personable and helpful and the hotel staff seemed genuinely happy to see us. A quick ride from the airport. The beach was not too great but that was Hurricane Matthew's fault and not the hotel. Rooms were clean, the washrooms functioned and the room featured huge balconies. Furniture was Cuban, old and not as comfortable as it could be, but that just added to the charm.

Room Tip: If you want two beds, ask.

Not bad if you're not looking for luxury. The hotel itself is old but the staff are great. I wish they had a better room and bathroom but for the price you pay, don't expect much. The beach, however, is a different story. Fantastic beach with nice waves. This was my first trip to Cuba and the food is awful. It's also removed from the main Varadero strip, and if you don't mind that, then all means, go. Think I paid 500 Canadian for one week stay. Think I would pay more for a better hotel. The free mojitos and coffee was a plus.

Room Tip: left side of the hotel on the upper floor would be a good choice.

We have gone to Cuba 3 years now. we have really enjoyed going to the Oasis. We really missed going this year but we couldn't find another place we need the ground floor as we are older and have walkers. Sure hope they are just closed for renovations or something temporary

Room Tip: Ground floor accessibility available
