This was my first visit to Cuba. Debbie had been many times before and persuaded me to give it a try ... We were upgraded to Royal Service(RS) which was greatly appreciated. The staff there were FANTASTIC ; amazingly warm and welcoming.
The grounds were relaxing and the beaches beautiful. There are several pools at the resort - we used the adults only one in RS. Which was usually very quiet
Being Cuba there are some problems.
Food was good but not plentiful Also a food that was available one day was not available the next! The other problem was although there are many specialty restaurants only 3 or 4 were open on any given night. Frankly the food in each was not very varied and rather overcooked for my palate.
Our Suite was gorgeous ... Great balcony with views of the ocean and the pool ... BUT the bed was AWFUL!
The Spa was excellent!
The internet was TERRIBLE!
Also Cuba is primarily a cash economy and there is a bank where you can exchange money on the property BUT if you use a credit card anywhere you will be charged a surcharge ( 3+%). There are only a couple of bank machines in Varadero - so you need to bring lots of cash
Overall a very enjoyable, reasonably priced and relaxing vacation but not a foodie venue and next time I'll bring more cash!More
