Having just arrived home from 2 weeks at this resort, I can absolutely testify that the resort is completely worth every penny! We travelled in 2 groups, both apartments were spotless, only general wear and tear which you would expect even in Hilton hotels. Cleaners were thorough, friendly and hotel staff were always polite and tried to please. The resort is huge and enables you to have as much quiet time or activities as you want. Every friday there is a beach party and the activity team are poolside daily with stretch classes, salsa lessons etc. It is true that hot water is rarely available in the morning but by early evening the water is very hot. Who in their right mind showers before getting in the pool or sea anyway? Early evening is ideal before going for dinner. There is 4 restaurants which serve amazing food and a buffet restaurant for all other evenings you do not book and for breakfasts, this is hit and miss - but not due to neglect by the resort, but its just the way they cook certain foods in this country. Eg; breakfast might be potatoes and baked bananas - but there is plenty of choice and I stuck to continental breakfast most of the time. The people in this country work extremely long hours - for example someone serving you at breakfast may be serving the bar at lunch and a restaurant in the evening, for this they deserve a bit more respect than what I have seen shown on here. It does seem that there is only certain 'type' of people that seem to always be writing bad reviews. For these people I would say next time if you want 5 star - PAY FOR IT! You have visited another country with their own ways so embrace it, isnt that part of going abroad? If you dont like it then holiday in your own country! - And for the record, there are no bed bugs ppl, these allegations are clearly from ppl who didnt bring 50% deet sprays with them and take their own precautions. Different country, different bugs!

Patel family, Ottawa, Canada
Two letters sent to the President ( Mr. S. Hunter) and CEO ( MR. M. Williams ) OF SUNWING with reference to my complaint about Princess Hotels and Resorts, Puntacana remain unheeded to date ; Therefore I am compelled to this this social media to draw the attention of the world wide travelling public to the shabby customer service we received during our stay from Feb 18, 2012 to March 3, 2012 ( booking ref / 54129782).
During our 15 day stay at the Caribe Club Princess Puntacana we had to change rooms 3 times for the following reasons: :
- Aircondition not working properly and no hot water in rooom ( NO. 2326)
- Room safe (vault ) mechanism malfunction ( RM 1109and RM1244)
-Shower floor drainage problem and power outage problem ( Rm 1244)
Other problems at the hotel include tardy room service ,insufficient toiletries and linen, absence of standard room items (alarm clock, pen, paper, waste paper basket in room etc)
A detailed letter in this respect was sent to Sunwing in March 2012 ( a copy also sent to the general manager of this hotel )explaining the difficulties faced by me, my wife and my friend during our stay . I am a senior citizen with a heart condition. This trip was planned to be a `celebration`of my new status ; instead it created more stress during our stay .
I am still waiting for a response from SUNWING.
I would caution future travellers to take into consideration the above factors before making a final decision to book their stay at this hotel thru SUNWING .

The location is very nice, the service staff is very friendly and most speak very good English

The grounds are nice - they run "trains" (little carts with seated wagons) regularly if you don't want to walk from one end to the other, but it's actually a very nice ~7 minute walk from the pools to the lobby, through mangroves and more.

There are several birds, chickens, lizards, and even peacocks around to take pictures of

3 very large pools - actually didn't use myself since I prefer the beach and the July 4 holiday was jammed with kids in the pools.

Excellent beach access, easily available and clean

Activities every night, though I prefer to avoid those - there are two large amphitheaters they generally occur in, and schedules are found on general bulletin boards and the board outside your villa

The buffet was standard - not great, but not horrible either. The pizza was surprisingly good, but there is no order and some of the more unrefined guests were shoving their way to the front for some of the items. not the hotel's problem per se, but it dimmed the experience. Every night they choose a different theme cuisine for the buffet, and the

The place was pretty busy, so we didn't realize that the specialty restaurants would be filled so quickly. We were only able to sample the Mexican (El Sombrero) and Brazilian (Rodizzio) restaurants

El Sombrero

The Mexican food was kind of a joke - I've had better Mex. food in CA and TX. It was not very authentic, but it was edible. The only qualm I had was the dessert - I had the churro, and it was undercooked and dry

Rodizzio

Appetizers were good (salad and bunch of fried foods, buffet style) and then they come around with the meats. The sausage was probably the best. They certainly want to fill you up on fried foods and carbs (beans&rice, french fries) before they bring the meats out, but overall, a good filling meal

The AC in the room was ice cold. Shower had hot water, but would take 1-2 minutes to get there. Once there, it was certainly hot if you wanted it. The room had a small 19-inch CRT TV, but let's face it - in a place like this, you spend most of your time on the beach anyway :)

My only complaint with the room was the bed, the springs were a bit saggy and uncomfortable to my taste

Room Tip: Top floor has vaulted ceilings

I spent a week here from 26th June to 3rd of July and had a great time. Okay the service can be a bit slow, but hey you're on holiday - what's the rush. I thought the whole idea about being on vacation is taking things easy. Prior to going I did the usual research on trip advisor re: this hotel. A few hic-ups....made forgot to change towels one day, but this was sorted out wityhin half an hour by a phone call to reception.

Fellow Brits (or avid tea drinkers) - Take your own tea bags and travel kettle if tea for you, like me, is a must!. At breakfast I found their tea bags to be extremely weak.....and the water poured into your tea cup to be like warm at best!!. This is my only gripe. But the freshly sqeezed juices at breakfast made up for the tea.

All in all had a great time. Again this is for the brits......dont bother taking local currency or sterling.......everything is sold and valued in US DOLLARS (inc tips). Take Dollars. DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM THE RESORT - very very expensive and a rip off. Take all your essentials from here. To give you an idea, I smoke roll ups and ran out of cigarette papers - in the resort $4 for a packet of rizla!!!

Also massage - a total rip off. Over priced to the max.

Otherwise perfect beach and great food.

Room Tip: Take US Dollars
