We just got back from our 3rd time at the Caribe Club Princess. Gets better every time there. The whole staff was simply amazing, from the buffet crew, to the lobby bar crew and the reception staff.. All requests were met with a smile. We had the same room overlooking the ocean for the 3rd time. Grounds were beautiful and topping it off with great weather,, what a week. The lobby bar crew, were fantastic, Candida, Ana Christina, Winston , & Estaban. Friendly warm and yes they all remembered us. They say 3rd time a charm, so true. Emanual at the reception desk welcomed us back with service, and a great smile. I highly recommend this resort for a great vacation. It's our home away from home with our Punta Cana Caribe family. We will see all of you again shortly. Thanks for the welcome and making our stay GREAT. !!!!!

We spent a week (February 17-24, 2018) at this resort. Overall, it was a nice resort, however with a bit of work, it could easily be turned into a 4+ star resort.

PRICING

We found packages available at this resort, through Sunwing, Air Transat and Sell Off Vacation. The packages work out to be economical than purchasing the flight and accommodations separately. Depending on the flexibility of your schedule, you could have savings by leaving on a non-peak day of the week. With most other vacation packages, the prices generally drop, as you get closer to the departure date, however I found that prices for this resort went up and down right up until the date of departure. It pays to watch the travel sites daily.

OVERALL

This is a nice resort. The grounds are well maintained, however the buildings are a bit out dated and should be renovated (especially the accommodations).

There is something for everyone at the resort; a relaxing atmosphere for those who want to sit back and relax, yet activities all day long for those who are more energetic.

Although we had some rain during the week, it never lasted throughout the day on any given day. Everyone managed to get some sun and fun.

ARRIVAL

Upon arrival at the airport, find your bus and make sure your luggage is loaded onto the right bus (physically watch to see that it is loaded into your bus). There is a lot of activity at the airport, so you could easily have your belongings go elsewhere.

RECEPTION

When you get to the resort, after validating that your luggage has safely made it off the bus, you will be instructed to go to the front desk to check-in. Depending on how quick you are in getting to the front desk, you may be able to avoid delays. If not, the welcome drink helps you settle in. Don't drink it too quickly, because you can't access the unlimited bar until you have checked-in and obtained your wrist band.

You cannot inspect the room you are assigned in advance, as you are given the keys and a shuttle takes you and your luggage to your room once you have registered. The shuttle stops in close proximity to the rooms.

If you have a lot of luggage and get an upper floor room, remember that there are no elevators. Don't worry, there aren't that many stairs to climb. Just seems like a lot after a night of partying.

ACCOMMODATIONS

As I mentioned before, the rooms are quite out dated, so check to ensure the air conditioner, toilet, water faucets, fridge, hot water and safe are in working condition. If not, call the front desk using the room phone and report issues. They usually have someone fix it within 24 hours.

We went with the VIP package, which entitled us to bathrobes, slippers and beach towels, which were provided in the room. Usually, when there are 3 people sharing the room, sometimes they forget to put the bathrobe, slippers and beach towels for the 3rd person in the room. Don't worry, housekeeping is really good and if you let them know, they will provide whatever is missing for the third person. The toiletries supplied by the resort include shampoo, conditioner, body wash and soap, but with lots of sun and sand, you may want to bring along the better quality hair products. If you forget, you can purchase them, along with sun products, bathing suits, etc. for a reasonable price at the gift shop.

If 3 people are sharing the room, in addition to the two double beds, which you will find in the room, there is a mattress tucked under the seat in the sitting area, so each person can have their own bed.

My husband and I forgot to request a queen size bed in advance, so we got 2 double beds. The beds were comfortable, however we found that sometimes, short sheets were placed on the beds (which you don't realize until you actually get into bed).

The patio is handy for hanging your wet clothes, but we were there when it was quite windy, so I recommend bringing along some clothes pins. By the way, we had to continually get the room key cards re-programmed, as the swipe on the cards kept getting de-activated. You have to go all the way back to the front reception desk to have the cards re-programmed. I am surprised they don't have this service provided a little closer to the rooms.

The doors to the rooms don't always close properly, so make sure you double check and give the door a good tug when leaving the room.

BEACH

During the week we were at the resort, there were more guests than beach lounge chairs. Most vacationers got up early and reserved chairs by putting their beach towels on them (despite the "DO NOT RESERVE" signs posted at the resort). On windy days, if the towels weren't secured, not only do you lose your chair, but you could also lose your beach towel. This is where big clothes pins come in handy. We saw some which guests brought along, which had fancy designs( i.e., flamingos and crabs).

RESTAURANTS

One of the best things about the resort was the service we received in the restaurants, snack bar and bars. We were there for 7 days and went to the buffet for breakfast, lunch and 1 dinner. We tried out the a la carte restaurants for the remainder of our meals.

Our favourite restaurant was the El Pilon. MORALES and his staff made us feel welcome and the food was excellent! We wanted to go back there on the Friday before we left, but all the restaurants which took bookings were fully booked (so book early for a Friday seating).

We received a unique welcome drink at each restaurant before dinner, which was a nice start to the meals.

I found the beef dishes were a little tough and fatty (even in the Brazilian restaurant). The seafood, chicken and pork dishes were much better. The omelette (for breakfast) and pasta (for dinner) stations at the buffet were worth the wait in line. For those with late night hunger pangs, there is the snack bar. I almost forgot the creperie. The coffee is much better there than in other food places at the resort, however the service is very slow. The crepes are hit and miss. One day, I had a nice thin crepe and the next, it was burnt. They also had a selection of desserts and ice-creams.

FACILITIES

Most of the facilities, restaurants and services were also available for use by guests staying at the Tropical Princess, situated next to the resort. During our stay, we met many guests who had booked at the Tropical Princess (at a considerably lower price than we paid), and after having complained about their rooms, were moved to our resort. Some even received the upgrade to the VIP package free of charge, which we paid approximately 8 dollars Canadian a day per person.

SPA

I went to the spa twice. The first time, the lady who gave me the massage was very gentle (maybe too gentle) and kept yawning throughout the massage. I was not impressed.

The second time, the massage was much better. The lady actually massaged out the tight areas in my neck.

BUGS

Mosquitoes arrived at night (when you couldn't see them) on the walking path, between the rooms and reception and also in the buffet restaurant, so have your bug spray ready. We didn't realize how badly we were bitten until we returned home. It was like a delayed bite reaction.

BIRDS, TURTLES AND OTHER CREATURES

Sometimes during the day, but definitely at night, you will see some unusual birds and also turtles that come out of the water to take food from your hands.

ENTERTAINMENT

There is a group called Animation who are responsible for activities at the resort. They also provide the nightly entertainment. Based on how often we saw them, they seemed to work long hours, but never showed any fatigue. They are energetic and some like JULI, who is part of the Animation team, interact often with guests. The Animation team also encourage guests to participate in resort activities. My family is big on volleyball and there were always daily games on the beach, where everyone could participate.

I think the activity which we enjoyed the most was the Foam Party. Foam all around the pool, music, dancing and fun!

By the way, if you compete in some of the daily activities and win, prizes are presented to you that evening before the nightly stage show. If you don't show up, it's your loss. There is also live entertainment most evenings in the reception lobby (before and after the stage shows).

The commentators for the stage show are quite talented with the number of languages they speak. The only frustration is that they translate everything into 5 or 6 languages, so you have to sit waiting until the commentator gets through each language.

DISCO AND CASINO

My kids who are in their late teens and early twenties frequented the disco each night and had a great time. They went to the casino once and didn't find it too entertaining.

CLEANLINESS OF THE RESORT AND BEACHES

There are people who walked along the beach and collected our drink cups and garbage. They were polite and conscientious when working.

If you take a drink form the bar or restaurant, you are given plastic (environmentally friendly) drink cups, which are washed and re-used. Kudos to the resort and locals for this initiative!

The resort also has some electric shuttles which operate so silently!

The resort and beaches were much cleaner and better maintained than the resorts we stayed at in other locations.

ITEMS AND EXCURSIONS FOR SALE

You will find locals walking along the beach daily selling things (sunglasses, excursions, bathing suits, bracelets, etc) and services (hair braiding). They are willing to negotiate, so do you research before signing up for the travel agency's excursion packages. Just make sure the packages are the same (i.e. same company providing the trip) when you are doing your price comparison. We paid the Sunwing rep 50 dollars U.S. per person for the dune buggy excursion and found a vendor on the beach that had the same trip for 35 dollars U.S.

ROOM CHECK-OUT

Check-out time is noon. Our flight out didn't leave until nine p.m., so I enquired about late check-out. The front-desk Manager quoted me a rate of 15 dollars U.S. per additional hour. I found out that other vacationers paid between 7-10 U.S. dollars per additional hour and managed to go back and negotiate with the front-desk Manager. He ended up still charging me 15 dollars U.S. , but gave me 2 hours free, so I accepted his offer. After all, if you want to have a showere after having used the beach before departing, it is worth keeping the room a little longer. It is too bad the booking agents didn't negotiated this extra time as part of the package, based on when the return flight is scheduled. Our flight went out at 9:10 p.m. and the bus to the airport left at 5:45 p.m., so we had almost 6 hours after the noon check-out time to still enjoy the resort facilities. Some guests packed their bags and left them at the front lobby, so that is also an alternative.

LIMITED INTERNET ACCESS

Wifi is only available in the reception area and better in some spots at the reception area than others. We found that most of the vacationers went to the reception area after dinner, which considerably slowed down the system.

You can rent a modem from the front desk (at reception) on a daily basis, but it is cheaper to rent for 3 days at a time, as the daily rate increases when you rent the modem for more than 3 days. Our main frustration in renting the modem was that you were required to submit a 100 U.S. dollars cash deposit when you rented the unit. The hotel would not accept a credit card deposit. If you didn't bring that much cash, the exchange counter at the hotel quoted us a rate of 50 U.S. dollars for 100 Canadian dollars. The Manager offered to take the cash out of our credit card, but for most credit cards, in addition to the foreign currency exchange, there is a cash advance fee. Unless you really need to have the modem, not worth getting it.

If your airline carrier charges to pre-book seats and you plan to book on-line within the free on-line booking window, it may be challenging with the limited Internet. To complicate matters, we flew with Sunwing and their mobile on-line checking sight was under maintenance (even for the in-coming flight), so we had to pay an agent to pre-book the seats. Many other passengers didn't want to pay the pre-booking fee and we saw families split up in seating all over the plane. Not a nice way to end the vacation.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE

There is a currency exchange booth at the hotel, however as previously mentioned in the "Limited Internet Access" section, the exchange rate is outrageous, so if you plan to use cash, have it exchanged before you leave home. U.S. dollars is the most advisable form of currency, as Canadian dollars will be subject to local exchange rates. Another tip is to get small bills (for tipping) in advance. The hotel sometimes has a limited amount of small bills available.

DEPARTURE

15 minutes before you are ready to head to reception for the airport shuttle, you can call the front desk reception (dial 0) and they will send the tram to pick you and your luggage up. There are designated pick-up areas, which are well marked.

Have a great time!

Sha Sha the ACCOUNTANT :)

P.S. In addition to JULI and MORALES, thanks to LUNA and WINSTON and all the other staff who made our vacation so enjoyable!!!

Stayed for 3 weeks Feb/Mar 18. Room needed a little bit of updating but clean and satisfactory. Cleaning ladies very good. Pillows were too big length wise for the pillow cases which was odd. Room overlooked main pool so very noisy between 3 and 5pm when animation team were performing but not really a problem. There is a massive problem with mosquitoes in certain areas of this hotel. I was bitten very badly on my legs mainly on three separate occasions and many other people had lots of bites too. This was at the reception bar, the beach bar and the Brazilian restaurant. The reception bar has 2 stagnant pools inside and 1 outside which are just breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Something needs to be done about this either by spraying more or by filling them in. The beach bar and restaurants need attention as well. The specialty restaurants were good although the protein portions at the Italian were very small, a complete change from the year before. Service at the buffet restaurant was not as good either. Was often seated at tables that weren't laid. Had to ask for cutlery, cups, coffee etc which was very poor. Maybe there are less staff this year. Food was generally good, lots of choice. Issues with small children using the Jacuzzi at the quiet pool as a swimming pool. This should not be allowed. A Jacuzzi should be for adults to relax in not for children to be constantly jumping into it , shouting and screaming. Who wants to sit in a Jacuzzi full of screaming children jumping all over you! This should be stopped. Lots of Russian guests who obviously do not understand western etiquette so there were a few issues regarding sunbeds and towels. Very few British guests. Grounds very nice, beach nice too but was dissapointed to see lots of seaweed on it. This was probably due to the very high winds the first couple of weeks of our stay, however it can and should be removed as it does detract from the beauty of the beach. I was surprised that I didn't enjoy my stay quite as much as last year but generally I did have a good time. I would say it's a good 3 star hotel but it seems to have gone down hill slightly in certain areas. I would not return in the near future.

Our second trip to this hotel. I was surprised how many of the same employees were still working at the resort when we returned a year later. I returned because of the employees and how helpful and kind they are. Some of the employees that really stand out are Christian and Jose Castro from the main buffet. Wellington from the pool bar again always professional and fun. This is just a few of the people that made our trip awesome. I will continue to return to this hotel and recommend to family and friends.

I don't frequent pubs often however while on vacation I did go to the bar in the lobby of the hotel and the beach bar by the ocean. There I met both Esteba and Luna two servers who worked there. I found both Luna and Esteba to be incredible individuals both professional and entertaining. They were kind and I enjoyed going these bars for an evening drink and chatting with them. Both of the individuals helped make my vacation fantastic and they were like the fruit in my drink excellent. I hope the next time I return to this resort they will always be there.
