I'm torn because my wife and I want to keep this hidden gem all to ourselves, but we have to rave about it because it was such a great experience.

Will start from the moment we arrived with our 2 year old son in tow. We never asked for a car seat, but the resort was proactive in ensuring that one was installed in the roomy van that picked us up. One point for being proactive.

The resort itself is essentially a bunch of private villas, each with a private pool, and all with luxurious island decor and vibe. Each villa also has a really nice stone hot tub and a Bali-esque outdoor shower (in addition to the indoor shower), and large walk in closet. Each villa comes with a golf cart to get around the resort, to the beach, and around Cap Cana (that said, there is not much to see in Cap Cana, more on that later). When we walked into the large walk in closet we were again impressed at how they catered to our little guy with a pair of little slippers and a little robe for him. Another point for being proactive. In the room was a coloring book and a kid's room service menu. It's those attention to details that really make your experience that much more special. For the families reading this, they have "Koko club" for kids which seemed cool, but whenever went inside.

The beach is a fun 2-3 minute golf cart ride away -- and it is absolutely beautiful. A very large main pool is also part of the beach club for when you (or your toddler) get tired of the ocean. Nestled adjacent to a Jack Nicklaus golf course and overlooking turquoise and indigo waters, it's the luxury Caribbean vibe that makes you immediately makes you forget any worries back home and takes your mind and soul to the place it needs to be.

On to the food...

There are two restaurants. The Medeterraneo is at the main reception area and it is where you have breakfast every day. They also serve upscale dinner. We had dinner there twice. The food was great, but the price of dinner was a little disproportionate to the experience and fine dining equivalent in New York, LA, Chicago, London, or any other city with Michelin starred restaurants. Each dinner was $300+. It was good, but just a bit disproportionate value for the meal. At the beach was a fabulous restaurant called La Palapa. We ate there for lunch pretty much every day. It was "island Italian". We loved every meal. Amazing fresh seafood -- I think my wife ate more fish this week than I've seen her eat in the last 5 years! Real Italian pastas cooked to perfection, fresh sushi (limited), creative dishes like a lobster burger, and more. It's an extensive enough menu to keep your palette happy for a week. Also disproportionately expensive for the value of the meal (~$125 for lunch every day), even though we loved it. The prices just feel sometimes like you are being taken advantage of. But whatever, we're on vacation.

Some other kudos -- the front desk concierge staff are wonderful. Gabriella was patient with us and helped us book some excursions and rent a car our last day so we can change it up a bit and go to Bavaro/Punta Cana.

We swam in a cenote (even our little guy), swam with dolphins, saw dinosaurs, spent the week skinny dipping in our private pool, swimming in turquoise Caribbean waters, letting the white sand run between our toes. It was really special, and of course, being with your family in a beautiful destination, with attention and friendly staff, is the definition of paradise.

Cap Cana as an area is a bit odd. It's beautiful, but hasn't quite taken off yet. There are a number of abandoned and/or never sold/occupied villas and hotels. The marina and adjacent hotels are all eerily quiet. And new resorts are still being built. While the crowds have not discovered Cap Cana yet, the general infrastructure is there to allow resorts and investors to continue to build out the area. Their island version of urban planning is impressive. There are miles of roads, surrounded by manicured landscaping, underground wiring, and golf cart paths. Apparently Cap Cana as a destination was only established less than 10 years ago, but I suspect the building will continue and eventually they will attract small crowds. Fortunately Eden Roc is a high end resort and therefore will hopefully always keep the the quaint charm vibe and quiet tranquility.

We will definitely be coming back!

My husband and I spent 4 wonderful days at Eden Roc. The property is young and still under construction in some areas, but the buildings that are finished are gorgeous. The food is outstanding at both restaurants and the beach is quiet and serene.

The staff are all wonderful, extremely friendly and very helpful. We only had one "oops" moment (we had to wait over a half hour for our check at lunch). When we asked the manager for the check he apologized for the wait and comped the whole meal!

The only reason I took off one star was for the construction. They are working on the buildings that are right off of the beach and it can get a bit distracting. When this resort is finished it will be perfect.

My wife and I spent 4 days over Valentine's weekend. Although the resort was fully booked, it was quite calm and quiet. The layout is all villas with ample privacy. We did not hear any sounds of other people when in ours. The decor is bright and cheerful and the bed and furniture was quite comfortable. AC, pool, lighting, etc all worked well. Although each villa has a private poll, the hotel pool looked quite tempting. Service was excellent and staff was unfailingly polite and helpful. A special shout out to Gabriela who handled all of our reservations (dinners, golf, spa) perfectly before we arrived. She was equally helpful in person when we arrived. The staff here is well trained and are clearly striving for lodging excellence which is difficult to find in the DR.
The beach Club was 3 minutes away by cart and was well served by the staff there.
If you are looking to reconnect with your spouse in peaceful, quiet and comfortable surroundings, this is the place. If you're looking to party with loud and crazy tourists, this isn't the place. My wife and I loved it.

My husband and I spent a long weekend here in Feb 2016.
There is a lot of good about this place.
The villa was spacious and beautiful. Having the private pool is nice, as is a golf cart to drive to the restaurants, spa, and beach. Beach is about a 3 minute golf cart ride. Beach was great. Beach butlers, nice sand, and the bay creates good swimming conditions (unless it is very windy).
The restaurant La Palapa is very good and we ended up eating all our meals except breakfast there.
The property is about a 15 minute drive from Punta Cana airport.
The staff are friendly and lovely.
Massages are available on the each, which was great.
Turn down service with water and chocolate was nice.
The welcome bottle of prosecco was nice.
Cleaning was great; no issues at all. They did a very nice job.

The not so good:
The driver assigned to pick us up was at a gate where he said no one from any flight exited. Not sure why he stayed there when all passengers exited elsewhere at baggage claim. We paid for our own taxi and the hotel did not offer to pay for it or reimburse although there were 3 staff standing there to greet us when we arrived.

Lunch service in the beach is limited to drinks and very few food items. If you want more than 5-6 choices, you must go the La Palapa. This was a bit frustrating bc the restaurant is also right there on the beach.

My husband surprised me with a massage and facial. During our massages, he asked for some spa music. The masseuse left and returned with some speakers connected to an iPhone. Every few minutes, loud rap music began playing. We went through this cycle about 4 times before my masseuse turned it off completely. We finished with no facials and then were told there had been a scheduling mistake. We headed to the lounge area and both the men's and women's steam rooms and saunas were not turned on and ready. This was surprising bc it was the middle of a Friday afternoon. They said they would turn it on but it would have taken at least ten minutes to have warmed. We decided to forego it and take showers only for us both to realize that the spa showers had no hot water.
The spa manager was very apologetic and did not charge for the massages, although we did not suggest that to him and told him we were happy to pay. Good, appropriate response and they seemed genuinely apologetic. Their standards are obviously high, and we happened to be there on an off day.

The water pressure in the shower in the villa and in the outdoor shower was very poor.

Breakfast was not very good and did not vary from day to day. We had great service throughout the stay with the exception of breakfast. Lots of confusion on orders, having to ask 2-3 times for items, and slow.

We had to call the front desk several times.
The resort provides an iPhone connection to play your own music but the connector they brought to us didn't work and then the whole thing didn't work. They were responsive in fixing it.

We called ahead about the resort's efforts to combat mosquitos and were told that they spray the resort every AM. I heard the sprayers about 5AM each day and were happy to know that mosquitos/Zika would not be an issue.

The resort is very remote, which is good if you want to be away from the large all inclusives of Punta Cana, but there is no cute little village or anything close by. Santo Domingo (UNESCO) is 2 hours away and would have been nice to see.
Not many restaurant choices. La Palapa was very good. The menu at Mediterraneo did not appeal to us and we did not try it.

We travel frequently and are very selective. This property was nice but disappointing in some ways. When planning another Caribbean/Central America trip we will stick with St. Barths, Kamalameke on Andros in the Bahamas, or the Mukal in Nicaraugua.

My husband and I have come here twice. The place is lovely. Our rooms are superb - roomy, great bed, huge walk in closet, bidet, huge tub, indoor (never used it) and out- door showers, and a great little private pool in the backyard. There is no view from the backyard, but it is completely private, which is what we were looking for. A golf cart is given to you upon check-in, and we used it fully. It's a five minute ride to their beautiful beach, which also is home to La Palapa, their lunch/dinner restaurant. You can eat at the restaurant straight from the beach, or you can order off a smaller menu if you'd like to eat on the beach. Definitely try the burrata or the ceviche, my two favorite lunch items, although they had a special clam pasta one day and it was fab as well.
Back to the resort... The spa is very nice and the attendants give a very nice massage. Breakfast was included with our room; the setting each morning is beautiful, the pastries are freshly made, and there are several other warm choices as well as a Japanese choice as well. Champagne, coffee, juices, several milk choices... everyone will find something they like here.
Also a short five minute golf cart ride away, is a gorgeous, fabulous golf course - Punta Espada. Eleven holes are either on the water or have a direct view of the water, the grass is maintained well, the caddy was very nice. Winds could be tricky, but wow... the view is fantastic the whole way through. Afterward, the 19th hole served another version of excellent ceviche, and the burger is great as well.
Eden Roc is not for people looking to party all night with new-found friends. It is a very private place which is why we love it. We did meet a few people, and had conversations, but I guess you could say we never had to fight for a beach chair or a spot in the restaurant.
They also have a formal restaurant located where breakfast is served. The setting is lovely, the food is very good, and the servers are very polite. When in the Dominican, please relax. Wherever we went, service is good, very friendly, and not especially speedy. But to us, that makes it charming... life is fast enough at home.

Room tip: make sure to ask for a private pool suite
