“Loiza /Aquatika--BEWARE”
Review of Loiza Aldea

This area is NOT your normal tourist area! Aquatika has RAZOR WIRE around the top. Loiza is a low poverty area with Aquatika stuck in the middle. I personally did not feel safe at times. Although there is a gate and a police station next door my husband & I never walked outside the gate or drove without our doors locked. The grounds are beautifully manicured, with pools and other outdoor activities. The "private beach" is disgusting. It is dirty & has garbage left all over it ex.plastic cups & broken glass! It also isn't private! People not from Aquatika were on it. The gate that is @ the beach is to keep others OUT of Aquatika not off the beach.

Friday 25 of July was a great parade alongside the route 187 thru the city of Loiza and its adjacent "barrios". People wear costumes and play music. Traditional Food is everywhere. Also the National "BOMBA" Festival is celebrated that day and there is a competition of drums called "tambores" playing the Loiza Bomba rythm, bomba dancing and negro culture poems. That was fantastic for me. Every night in the plaza there is Latin music and entertainment. On the Saturday people parade alonside the "barrios" thru route 187, and there in one those barrios is the "Batey de los hermanos Ayala" and is all day/night "Bomba" playing and dancing. The Ayala's is a folkloric group that interpret the tradicional Bomba de Loiza.
