Reina del Mar was a highlight of our trip to San Juan, and we discovered it unexpectedly! We had been "in the neighborhood" for another purpose, and checked Yelp and Trip Advisor for a great restaurant that we could walk to. After walking about 20 minutes, we found the restaurant, and at first, weren't even sure it was open. We were delighted when we walked in, saw beautiful white tables clothes, professional looking staff and, always a plus, it seemed to be filled with locals! Between our broken Spanish, and their challenged English, we managed to have the best dining experience! I started with the Pulpo, and it was fresh, tender, and served with a light vinaigrette dressing. The portion size was very large, probably meant to be shared, but perfect just for me. I ordered the Halibut, and my husband the Snapper. The fish was SO fresh, and again, the portion size was substantial. The sauce complemented but did not overpower the dish. We were not offered a wine list, so not sure if there is one, however, when we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, they brought a bottle out that was very good. It was $60, and probably a bit more than we might have spent, but not seeing the wine list, not given the choice. That was a little weird. The service was exceptional. Very attentive and professional. Now, as mentioned, this was a little out of the way for us (staying in Isla Verde). Can't say if this would be worth a long cab ride, but it really was great. As we left, we were given a card for their other restaurant Candela which is in Isla Verde. We had hoped to go, but ran out of time. It seemed to be rated well, so next time!
